P-47 Razorback skin request...Please
« on: December 29, 2017, 10:11:01 AM »

Hi folks, would any kind person out there be able to help me with this one.  I am trying to get P-47 skins for the 359th FG which comprised the 370,369,368 Fighter Squadrons who flew out of East Wretham in the early 40s before transferring to the P-51.  If anyone could help....it would be amazing...Many thanks in advance...Gary

You're right Not many Unicorn P47 have been made all ready, not even one find looking all over my file , most of the 359th fg plane find were green nose mustang most be cause so few good 1943-44 picture and profile of those plane available , many are from to far away or close up were you cannot see all the detail needed , could find few good one and that s all...  what are you looking for one plane , a flight ?   could be hard to find many p47 who could have flight together... do you have any good picture of the plane you would like to have?

Hi VonWaffen, and thanks for getting back to me....Like you as far as I can understand, most 359th p-47s were the bog standard olive drab top and mid sea grey underneath, with white stripe on tail and horizontal stabs also with a white band on the nose ( this is going by the osprey book about the unit ) it was then down to the pilot what he wrote on the engine cover......What I was after was just a bog standard P-47 without any pilots own logo, I know the unit codes were CV,IV,CS as it was when carried over to the P-51s....More the pity, the 359th never got to use the bare metal 47s and had them shipped out to Africa as soon as they arrived at East Wretham.....Why do I want one in the game? because East Wretham was where I grew up as a kid....Thanks to the great work done by the skinning guys, I have the P-51s pack ( and beautiful they are ) but I have very few P-47s.

Great Link Mick, there is loads of P-47 skins out there, but none of the 359th FG,  the skin itself seem to be mostly bog standard Olive drab/grey, it's just the coding and tail number that's different....I currently have had the same problem modeling a 1/48th scale of the same aircraft.  In the end Ive had to send away for usaaf white aircraft code letters and yellow serial numbers, as no one in the great modeling world makes East Wretham P-47 Markings either.

Oh wow, VonWaffen, that's incredible!!! God I wish I had the know-how and technology to try doing skins, No mick the reason im after 359th is because i grew up at Wretham during the 70s and bless the skinning gods I have the p-51s of the 359th...Guess Im just sentimental but it adds a bit more interest if you have some sort of association with the unit you are flying with, i:e I grew up at wretham (359th) I work with 100th Air refueling wing (previously 100BG B-17s), my time in the RAF was at Coningsby with 29, 228, 229, sqn and of course Battle of Britain memorial flight........VonWaffen mate keep up the great work....You are a star!!!!

VonWaffen, you take your mate.  I completely understand, I work nightshift on an active airbase and care for a very ill wife, so my time playing il-2 is limited and precious.  Those photos you have posted are incredible, I have never seen them before and I go on the 359ths Facebook page...The two seat Mustang looks very cramped and very weather beaten.  It would make a very interesting 1/48th scale model to make....Anyway keep up the great job you are doing, as for me it's time to go to work ( Dam ) Stay safe ...Gary
