You can see thumbnails in Explorer for all your TGA files created on Gimp, Photoshop, etc:

Note: flarered0, flaregreen0 were created on GIMP, flaregreen, flarered are stock IL-2 files.
You need the IMF Viewer for TGA conversion tool to convert the stock IL-2 TGA files:

I found a freeware plugin to Explorer that shows all tga's as thumbnails in Windows 7 (64 bit):
