Is the m6a1 meant to be landed?
« on: May 12, 2018, 07:43:36 PM »

I want to find an answer to a question regarding the japanese m6a seiran seaplane. I specifically remember being able to land it perfectly on the water (because of it's pontoons) but every time I try to land it now, the plane tips over to one side whenever it's about to come to a stop. I can't figure out why this happens but I don't remember it happening when I first tested the plane. I also turned on the autopilot to see if the AI can land the plane without it tipping over, and it can. Am I doing something wrong? I tried going as slow as possible before landing, airbrakes out, radiator open, pulling back on the stick as hard as possible, not touching down until the plane is under 80mph, etc. It always tips over at the last second. I also saw a video where someone lands it, and the same thing happens to him, although that might be because he pushed the nose down. I'm just frustrated I can't seem to land the plane without it nosing over since I remember being able to do it.

Denko9001,

Though it looks like a clip issue, if memory serves me correct this plane has an issue with implements in its classfile.

There is no implement for it to know it is a seaplane, see my comment and fix in this thread: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,35097.60.html

Will this fix work for you? It depends what game version you are using. This fix will help if your game is pre 412, which calls for typesailplane, I believe it was 412 and later require typeseaplane.

A couple questions, what game are you using? Does the plane stay afloat if you start a scramble mission in the water?

Dear CWatson,
I use BAT WAW3.
I tested the seaplane with QMB and met the same problem as Denko9001.
It looks like the left float doesn't sustain the aircraft.
Does your fix help us in case of WAW3?
Best regards.

Tart,

I am not sure I use 409, so lets find out.

Here is the original 409-410-411 fix:
https://www.mediafire.com/file/8eu47pic472qq2g/M6A_fix.rar

Fix modified for 412-413:
https://www.mediafire.com/file/6u6a9jl7jetdkrm/M6A_fix__412-413.7z

Please give them a try and report your results.

I hope it works for you,

Hey CWatson.
Thanks a lot. I tested the "412-413" one in WAW and it works just fine.

Doesn't work for me. I replaced the file with the ones you put up and it still leans to one side when you land. I even tried both versions of the seiran (410 and 411) and tried replacing the classfiles for both.

I'm starting to think it's because I have waw3 instead of waw2.

The only thing I can think of is a clip issue in the version you are using. My only other suggestion would be to use the 409 conversion by Epervier, it works for me:

After that, try adding my fixes to that version.

Dear all,
I installed your fix, dear CWatson, but I had the idea to activate my gear before landing on the sea just like on an ordinary aircraft, it worked.
So I minused your fix and did another test in the same way. It still worked.
Dear Denko9001, just make a test of landing with your gear down. It is rather surprising for a seaplane with floats, but do the test and tell us.
I also made a test of landing on a solid soil in case of the plane beeing amphibious but I crashed.
Best regards to all.

I already managed to fix but I'll remove the fix and see if this works.

Ha, interesting!

I did a round starting and landing, so I never "retracted gear" in the first place. That's why it "seemed" to work
So does that mean, there is no need for a fix at all, rather just to remember to deploy gear before landing?

The original fix was so the AI would land in the water, not at an airfield. It is odd you guys can even deploy landing gear. The control for it should be deactivated in the FM since it is a seaplane.

Whatever works in your games is what counts.
