Albatros D.III early version released

Albatros D.III early

This model use mostly the same parts as the original Albatros D.III, with the exception for the edited files for the upper wings and the new centre mounted wing radiator that was used on the early Albatros D.III's. The radiator is a modified version from the original Albatros D.III.

3D Edits by vonOben.
Slot and Java edits by vonOben.
Skin edits and new radiator skin by vonOben.
The flight model is the same as for the Albatros D.III.
Self stationary plane by vonOben.

Tested in 4.10 (DBW_1916) and 4.12 (DOF3).







Credits:
Edited 3d models for the wings and radiator are based on earlier work by: OAW~Magpie, Lisek and Loku.
max-theHitman and Phas3e who made the original default skin which I've edited and also was used as starting point for the radiator skin.

Beautifully done as ever VonObrn! I do have an observation/question tho.

I was under the impression that Albatros went away from the center mounted radiator during the run of Albatros D.II due to danger to the pilot.

Not a criticism just a question.  ;D

Sweet!  Another nice variant of the venerable DIII.

   I have to ask. Why do most of the D.III's in game have the moniker WD.I attached to them? Are they all flying with the same FM as the Alby float plane fighter?

I use Windsock datafiles as a reference for my 3d modding. In Windsock datafile spcial Albatros D.III you can find this information:

"Pilots complained that the water duct leading from the engine to the centrally-mounted aerofoil radiator interfered with gun aiming.
After at least 306 fighters had been delivered, the radiator was offset to starboard thus removing the obstructive water ducts from the field of vision.
(Photographs show that the switch from central radiator to offset radiator occurred bet-ween airframes D.2215/16 and D.2252/16.)"

Do you mean the icon text for the plane?

That has nothing to do with the FM, the icon text is defined in the Java class files.
The Albatros D.III has the icon text "Albatros" and the Albatros DIII Early has the text "AlbatrosDIII".

It's the old Albatros D.I that show the text "AlbatrosWD". I've corrected that in my update "Albatros D.I 3D corrections and new radiator" available at my site, where the Albatros D.I now shows the name "AlbatrosDI".  ;)

A first for me - it should have CTD but did not. I edited  vonOben's various .ini's into the DOF3/STD/ folder. I placed the AIRCRAFT_AlbatrosDIIIEarly folder high up in DOF3 (in BAT 3.5). IL2 started up just fine but the AlbatrosDIIIEarly aircraft did not appear in the aircraft list either in QMB or FMB or whether I asked for the flyable aircraft or the stationary_axis aircraft. The  BAT basic Albatros D.III still appeared as a choice. In trying to find the problem I removed the AIRCRAFT_AlbatrosDIIIEarly folder and left in the ini's , which usually crashes the program at 70%, but oddly it did not. I then removed one, then the other, then both of the air.ini:

AlbatrosDIII      air.AlbatrosDIII    2       NOINFO  g01 SUMMER
AlbatrosDIIIEarly   air.AlbatrosDIIIEarly    2       NOINFO  g01 SUMMALBATROSdiiiER

still no aircraft appearing and no crash. Also oddly, when removing the above air.ini texts, the BAT basic Albatros D.III still appeared.

I have the other vonOben Albatros I and II variants loading and showing up, it's just the DIII. For some reason this particular aircraft is not being seen by the program. Is there a pre-requisite mod I am missing?

To create a loglist I ran a QMB which allowed me to select the BAT basic Albatros III (not the vonOben variant). The tail end of my loglist is attached showing errors referencing Albatros which I cannot interpret.

Please check again that you have followed the readme file!

This line is not as it was written in the readme file:

should be:

Thanks for the reply. I did not notice in my post that the air.ini text I referenced had some extraneous words attached by mistake - a cut and paste typo. Those added letters do not appear in my actual ini.  The air.ini in  game does in fact read: AlbatrosDIIIEarly   air.AlbatrosDIIIEarly    2       NOINFO  g01 SUMMER -  The problem I am having remains, so I'm still looking for a solution.
