G'day Tokyo Rose and MOUSQUITO

Firstly thanks for all the hard work, this is a very important map for us Aussies.
In reply #239 you mentioned that there will be a 1942 version of this map, this is the version I wish to build my campaigns with.  May I request that the aircraft revetments at Lae be removed as this was basically a dirt strip and little else.

Hi all, Im hoping some of you here may be able to help me out, Ive exhausted the search function and banging my head on the monitor doesnt appear to be working either. In short, the map loads in FMB, but I cannot save

This is the first map I have attempted to install manually and Ive obviously gone wrong somewhere, Im just not sure where. Ill try and list the install process I followed, which will hopefully help with diagnosing my mistake.

-I am attempting to install the map into the VPmod which is otherwise running fine
-Downloaded vpmedia's updated Green Hell version with more trees  (new version with more trees: https://ulozto.net/file/24JnZZYO9liE/mapmods-green-hell-7z)
-Unpacked to desktop
-Copied Green_Hell_1943 to: #SAS>MAPMODS>MAPS
-Copied TEX_GH to: #SAS>MAPMODS>MAPS>_Tex
-Copied 3do to: #SAS>MAPMODS
-Updated all.ini (file found in #SAS>MAPMODS>MAPS)
-Updated static.ini (file found in #SAS>STD>com>maddox>il2>objects)

The Green Hell map is found in the maps menu of FMB, in the appropriate place, loads fine, appears to have everything in its right place, but cannot save.

Because I am installing this into the vpmod, not bat, I shouldnt have any of the missing objects, but just in case, I did try installing vpmedia's greenhell_xtra_buildings_BAT.7z although this didnt help.

Any advice anyone can give would be much appreciated, if Ive done something obviously stupid, my apologies, this is my first attempt.

Cheers

The 7z has a !MAPMODS_Green_Hell folder inside, that goes into your #SAS folder and you have to add the included ini entries to static.ini and all.ini.

Thanks for the quick reply vpmedia. I have removed all previous files copied over and just placed !MAPMODS_Green_Hell folder into #SAS and rechecked all.ini and static.ini, both have the required entries, but I am still unable to save in FMB.

Due to my inexperience, I have had to take an educated guess as to exactly where the static.ini file resides. I have used the one found in #SAS>STD>com>maddox>il2>objects. Is this the right location?

Appreciate your help.

OK, so I downloaded static.ini checker - Looks like a great little tool - and it is telling me:

Missing objects in your static.ini:

buildings.House$MaintShed
buildings.House$WoodenWall1
buildings.House$FuelDrum
buildings.House$RepairShop1
buildings.House$WorkTable
buildings.House$Supplies
buildings.House$Tent_1
buildings.House$HangarThreeNoObjects

Just to confirm, Im running vpmod with no extra mods. I guess I just add these as entries to the static.ini file?

[EDIT] Have fixed WoodenWall1, it was missing a left bracket. The remaining missing objects were found in Geezers WW1 Objects. According to static.ini there are no missing objects anymore, but the map still wont save.

Im at a loss, Ive learnt a lot in the last 4 hours, but it seems to have been for naught  :(

If you load the map, then tab out of or exit the game, then chack your log.lst file in the game's root folder, you may find out what's causing the problem. It helps to have the instant log output mod installed, as this forces a more immediate writing to the log of any errors that occur.

Also, it can help if you travel over a good part of the landscape in the FMB, passing over at least some number of airfields/towns. After conducting this 'tour' of sorts, you would be more likely to invoke the load failure that is causing you grief, and thus catch it in log.lst.

Actually, whille cruising about in the FMB, you can simply periodically hit SHIFT-TAB to display the console output on screen. This info goes to the log.lst file as well, sometimes formatted a bit differently. But at least it will show with some immediacy if things are misbehaving, whereupon you can inspect log.lst for more completeness.

After hitting SHIFT-TAB (which freezes the game) and perusing the text output, hit that same key combo again to go back to interacting with the game.

Thanks wxtech, will give that a go, although, just to be clear, I can't fly on the map, because nothing on this map can be saved through FMB

Indeed; if you could fly--meanjng you could save a mission--all this would be moot. ;)

At least being able to load the map in the FMB provides us with a kind of 'frozen' flight, with the special property of not requiring to load a plane. In this way we can explore what errors await to address.

Ahh I see what you mean. Such a modding noob  :(

Definitely some problems with the Geezers WW1 objects I added, all are throwing up the following error

The map was built using vpmodpack, so no missing object is possible.

In my game the fuel drum is in

#SAS\STATIC_BUILDINGS_G\3do\Buildings\Airdrome\ww1\FuelDrum

ini entry

[buildings.House$FuelDrum]
Title           FuelDrum
MeshLive        3do/Buildings/Airdrome/ww1/FuelDrum/live.sim
MeshDead        3do/Buildings/Airdrome/ww1/FuelDrum/dead.sim
AlignToLand     0
AddHeightLive   0.0
AddHeightDead   0.0
Body            FuelSmall
Panzer          0.05

Interesting... I don't have that folder in my install. Explains why there are missing objects then.... Just exactly why they are missing is now a bit concerning. Strange that this is the first time a problem has occurred though.

I can feel a re-Install coming on  ::(

I feel like a genius! even though I realise I have only fixed a problem of my own doing... kind of

Because I had taken only the relevant pieces from Geezers WW1 objects and for some reason put them in the 3do folder for the Green Hell map, the MeshLive/Dead file locations were different to the static.ini entry. Once i removed them and just took the whole Geezers WW1 objects folder and placed under #SAS, everything worked fine.

Why these were missing from my original vpmod install in the first place, I dont know.

Thanks to vpmedia and wxtech for the help, without the log advice and seeing the ini entry I probably wouldnt have clicked.

Cheers lads!  ]cheers[
