I usually unzip them to their own folders and copy those over to my install..just like to see what's being added in

BIG MISTAKE: Installers rename SFS and/or delete obsolete files. Sooner or later you will run into trouble.

Further to my other post where I reported that the Blitz expansion seems to have corrupted my install.

Please, don't do this. Do NOT start new threads about the same subject.

I locked this double post and will dump it later.

So - please - stay in one thread next time. You can't expect members who try

I thought each module installer removed old folders as well, if you just copy them over won't the old folders/files remain?

Who are you asking and what are you asking? Please rewrite your last post as if it was a brand new topic.

DO. NOT. DO. THAT.

AND. DON'T. SUGGEST. THIS. TO. OTHERS.
(particularly not users with a bugged install)

This is a recipe for trouble. Why do you think we write "always use the installer.exe" ten times in every possible download thread?
Hint: it's not for fun.

Use the friggin installer exe!
It exists for a reason and does a lot of cleaning, deleting and renaming. Especially the latter is essential to have a functioning and clean installation.
Especially the #....3 folders will screw you up if you just copy/overwrite.

...but it's always funny to read about the results afterwards, including the inevitable JD paradox resulting from it :P

It so happens that I have been learning how to create quick missions lately. The "data file corrupt" message appears instantly in the QMB if there is the slightest thing wrong with the selected quick mission. The requirements for setting up the file are pretty strict, so I have gained a lot of familiarity with this error in the last couple weeks.

All the QMB missions I have tried in BAT so far have worked. Have you added any, or have you moved files between QMB and QMB plus directories?

Seems I have a computer problem, I have just installed the first BAT module on top of a 4.12 copy and it is behaving the same way as when I installed Blitz. I had to do a restore on the computer a week or so ago but I thought I read that IL-2 1946 makes no registry entries so I am at a loss there but it seemed to be working before the restore point. I also have a copy that has been modded with VP mudpack, could there be a clash between these?
I am at a loss at the moment other than removing all traces of IL-2 1946 and doing a fresh install from the discs.

It does indeed not need a registry, you can simply move the whole directory anywhere on your harddrive and have multiple copies without a problem. It is advisable (and is mentioned in the BAT install guide) to move the game out of Windows protected folder paths, such as "Programs" or the like. It's best to have completely separate folder on your main drive for modded IL-2 installs.

No, not at all. In fact it would even be possible to operate your VP Modpack from the very same BAT install by using the #SAS folder:

I have reinstalled everything from 4.12 up and the problem has now gone away. I think this may have all been pilot error on my part but not sure how.

Thanks for the help
