Converting 4.10 NTRK-files to 4.12?
« on: July 06, 2019, 01:28:04 PM »

Anyone who has tried playing a NTRK-file recorded under 4.10 in 4.12 knows that the result can be bizarre, amusing even. But they are, alas, unusable. This is a head-ache for me as I am converting a very big 4.10 campaign with MANY ntrk-files to 4.12.

So I wonder, is there any reasonably easy way to convert 4.10 NTRK-files to the 4.12 format? Grateful for any help here!  :-X

All the best
/P

PS. Sorry, I know this has been discussed here on the Form, but I have failed to find it. :-|

At first glance I would say absolutely no.

But from experiences past, I can offer these insights:

  -  presence of objects on maps "seem" of no consequence; those no longer there, are simply absent.
  -  vehicles, perhaps do behave the same. Not there being not there. But what about the targets? .
If a vehicle is not there, does it's rank and trajectories screw up the others ?
I vaguely remember a few convoys scrolling the countryside evading their appointments.

  -  all needed planes and plane versions must be present as they were back then. Such a problem seems obvious.
( Identical Stationaries as they existed back then, if used: some newer offers might not equate to the older variants! )
  -  flight engine of these games been so different ; I would say this part is hopeless: n-trk are replays onto checkpoints.
( Terrain avoidance of 412, not really there in 410; AI being more aggressive in 412, Flack behavior, et.c ).
  -  worth mentioning: are possible no open canopies and catapults behaviors screw-ups.
  -  about actors of map having changed: I would recommend getting the original actor of a map for sure, of when the track was made.

Ex.:   I know that by editing a map, creating a new actor, adding some more "waypoints"
( Parkings , taxiways , runways, takeoff points ), while still in 412, causes the earlier ntrks'412 using that map to be screwed.
Results feature friendly planes and enemy planes intermixed, planes shooting at empty spaces, all seems out of sync.

I have the same frustration as you do. I must use my old replays in their old game versions: 409 410 412.

Back in 2004, my days of 401.1 and trks, updating to 401.2 would end the trks, but they were so few back then.
At 404.3, I just refused to go to final 404.4,  having so little to gain, and the lost all my experiences past proved unacceptable to me.
Fond memories

So even if we could edit the content of a n-trk, it would still remain a playback-reconstruct to be done now by the current game.

BoB

PS: An important word is REPLAY: meaning the game tries to play the entire situation over again; n-trk is obviously not a full capture system.

Hubberanz!

Thanks for this info. I knew that it was not a recording per se, but the full complexity of it stands very clear to me now. Now I know - good! It will be simpler just to re-record those movie clips!
