Here is a download link to a new map. It is called Desert Coast for lack of a better name. It is supposed to represent any number of areas around the Red Sea, the Arabian Peninsula or North African Coast where the desert meets the sea. So it is essentially fictitious though based on a part of the Namibian coast along with a number of islands added to make the map interesting and a bit more varied. There a few volcanic islands to the south with textures that came out very well.

The map is quite small - easy to make ... ha ha - and has only 2 land airfields and two seaports, though one is in a nicely populated and protected seaport. I've tested all airfields/seaports and to my surprise, even the enclosed seaport works for landings and take-offs.

This is mostly an atmospheric map and I've done my best to get smooth flowing textures without any jarring colors or contrasts. The Edmap is a bit sparse, but how to assign flags for non-existent nations? Most objects are either on or very near the coast or on the islands. Inland is a desert waste. There are no Il-2 generated roads, only road objects that make up roads. They look better but will of course not be as useful for vehicle movement.

There are also many old fortresses and forts on the map, relics of the past. If not for the seaport on the coast, the map might work for a 1916 scenario, for instance Lawrence getting seaplanes in the Hejaz, at Yenbo or Jiddah.

P.S. What version was this made for? Any additional mods/etc? Asking just in case. I will be trying this with a ModAct 4.12, which is why I'm asking in case I will be missing objects..

That might have been a good name too ... ha ha. The map grew out of frustration trying to get something set up for Oman. It just didn't work. So I tried this rather simple landscape. It's mainly inland desert aside from the coast. But the fun part was the islands and popping ...

Btw - I might be on the road starting tomorrow for a few days, so if there are problems and I don't respond, I will once back with a connection.

Many THX for this new and very nice MTO map, Agracier, I promise I'll make good use of it (provided I can save missions  ...) ...! 

EDIT:

Just took a look at it, and textures are in 24 bit format, so I turned them down to 8 bit format, will see if they work ...

... map won't load, I believe the last texture, Spain_1024_Maghreb_Fields etc is damaged ... 

... it's only half size compared to the other textures ...

I downloaded two browsers with the antivirus turned off - the downloaded archive is damaged.
Only 30 of 47 files are extracted. Can anyone confirm?
