Hawaiian Airlines DC-3
« on: September 10, 2019, 04:42:30 PM »

Hello.

Recently I began working on a new single-mission set, my first in BAT. A few years ago, in the then-current stock version of Il-2, I created a sort of What-If version of the first wave of the December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. I've decided to rework the basic mission in order to produce a non-fictional version of the scenario in BAT 3.7. This is partly by way of taking advantage of the objects now available in BAT,  especially the relevant US battleships. I've also decided to use Whitecat's Hawaii map, which includes a vastly more accurate depiction of Ford Island.

Whitecat's map also has a version of John Rodgers Airport, now known as Daniel K. Inouye International. Having this airport in the map makes it possible to include some general aviation types which were present at or near the airfield during the raid. Most prominent among these was apparently a Hawaiian Airlines DC-3 which had just begun to embark passengers when the raid began, and which is said to have been destroyed by Zeros which had been strafing the adjacent Hickam Field. I have found a few airliner skins for the DC-3 which at a distance resemble the Hawaiian Airlines scheme of the period. It would be nice, however, to have an accurate Hawaiian Airlines paint scheme, which featured a blue cheatline and blue rudder stripes. A pair of 1941 photos can be found here:

Hawaiian Airlines had three DC-3s at the time, so there may have been at least one other Hawaiian Air DC-3 spotted in the area.

Do Hawaiian Air skins for Il-2's DC-3/C-47 already exist? If so, where might they be found?

If not, would anyone out there be interested in producing such skins?

As always, with many thanks and much appreciation.

Thank you, mexchiwa. I'm a fan of your previous work, with many examples on file. I've found only a five or six period photos of Hawaiian Airlines DC-3s, and one color profile. The color elevation is here:

I also found screenshots of the x-plane version of the color scheme:

https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/27934-hawaiian-airlines-dc-3-livery/

The blue in the x-planes version seems too pale. I'm also dubious about the November numbers on the wing; this disagrees with what little photographic evidence is available
I also have six period photos on file, but I shouldn't post those here. Please see your PMs.  8)

I don't know how to begin to thank you. This is huge, coming from one of Il-2's best known skinners. Wish I knew how to do that.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
