Ultrapack 3.3 "Bigfoot"
« on: September 18, 2019, 08:31:20 AM »

Summer draws to a close, time for the next Ultrapack 8)

It's time for the next big step in Ultrapack Development.
Today we're proud to release Ultrapack 3.3 "Bigfoot", incorporating our enhanced IL-2 1946 core engine version 4.51, the famous "Java Wall" fix and a couple of new planes and other improvements.

This is a true "Bravo Foxtrot" update, it's a Bigfoot, taking a giant step forward in the number of available aircraft in Ultrapack.
We've had 620 aircraft available before (excluding "Aces"), now we have 801.
The list of new or significantly updated aircraft (not necessarily comprehensive) is:

(*) Me-262V3 flight model:
Like in real life, you have to tap the brakes in order to get the 262V3 off the ground.
Let the plane accelerate to 180km/h, tap the brakes until the tail comes up and you will soon get airborne automatically.
Remember to move the throttle gently below 6000rpm.
    VERY GENTLY!
This plane is equipped with very early stages of the Jumo 004 jet engines which are still under development.
The specified spool up time from idle to full throttle is ==>> 40 Seconds <<==
This means that e.g. when using keyboard for throttle, you're allowed to increase throttle by one step (=5%) every 2 seconds only !!
You might be lucky and manage to spool up within half of that time (20 seconds) but we cannot guarantee that the engines will survive it.
If you spool up any faster, your engines will go up in flames, mark these words!
The same applies when you throttle back: GENTLY!
You can do it quicker than throttling up, actually about twice as fast, but you still have to do it GENTLY once you fall below 6000rpm.
That much for the bad news about the engines, the good news is that above 6000rpm you can move the throttle as quick as you like.
    Watch your RPMs!

Note: * Trim setting for ground start is "full up".
It will be applied automatically on ground start, however if you have a joystick axis attached for elevator trim,
remember to trim up all the way when you start on ground, otherwise you risk to nose over when you tap the brakes.
          * Don't let the plane accelerate beyond 200 km/h without lifting the tail.
Otherwise eventually the wings might lift the plane into the air (especially with low fuel load),
but you have no elevator authority yet since they're still wing alee: -> Crash.
          * Don't tap the brakes too soon when you try to lift the tail.
If you do so below ~160km/h, the tail will come up, but since you don't have sufficient elevator authority yet, your plane will nose over.

ATTENTION: If you have installed PA_Jeronimo's Engine Cowling Mod, please deactivate the Me-262V-3 folder inside of that mod, otherwise
Your engine will get damage once started on ground, see deactivation details below.

Additionally implemented Debugging Switches:

(*) Deactivation / Deinstallation of previously installed Hotfixes and/or Hotfix Packs:
Previously installed Hotfixes and Hotfix Packs have to be deactivated from within JSGME.
The Hotfix Packs appear like this in JSGME, watch out for them and deactivate them if they appear to be activated:
- #UP#_Hotfix_Pack_v1.00
- #UP#_Hotfix_Pack_v1.01

The Hotfixes appear like this in JSGME, watch out for them and deactivate them if they appear to be activated:

IMPORTANT: If you have PA_Jeronimo's Engine Cowling Mod installed in your game, please make sure to Rename the folder
           3do/plane/Me-262V-3
inside that mod folder (e.g. the path in your game might be like "#UP#\Fixed cowling engine & props\3do\plane\Me-262V-3") to
           3do/plane/-Me-262V-3
or simply remove the "Me-262V-3" of it.
If you don't do so, your engines will die on ground start.

Please note that this is a release thread, which is why it's locked in order to avoid confusion.

Ultrapack 3.3 "Bigfoot" Patches, Hints & Tricks
« Reply #1 on: September 19, 2019, 04:53:31 AM »

Patches, Hints & Tricks:

Ultrapack 3.3 Bigfoot Patch 9:

This is the ninth patch for Ultrapack 3.3 Bigfoot.
For your information: Patches are cumulative and have to be installed on top and activated after the main update "Ultrapack 3.3 Bigfoot".
This means whenever there's a new Patch, you can either install it on top of the old one, or just skip any old Patch and go straight from "Ultrapack 3.3 Bigfoot" to the last Patch.
Understood? Fine.

Here's Patch 9, it comes in two parts due to it's size:
Download Link (Mediafire):
Ultrapack 3.3 "Bigfoot" Patch 9 Part 1
Ultrapack 3.3 "Bigfoot" Patch 9 Part 2

Mirror (OneDrive):
Ultrapack 3.3 "Bigfoot" Patch 9 Part 1
Ultrapack 3.3 "Bigfoot" Patch 9 Part 2

Mirror (Mega):
Ultrapack 3.3 "Bigfoot" Patch 9 Part 1
Ultrapack 3.3 "Bigfoot" Patch 9 Part 2

Installation:
Download both parts and run (double-click to start) the 1st part only. No need to do anything to Part 2, it will be applied automatically by the installer which is inside Part 1.
Install on top of a running Ultrapack 3.3 Bigfoot game.
The installer will attempt to activate the Patch automatically after installation.

Installation Notes:

ATTENTION:
Experience taught us that the variety of custom added mods to existing Ultrapack installations exceeds any imagination.
For that reason, beginning with Patch 3 the installer will attempt to create a Backup of your "#UP#" and "SFS_UP" folders and proceed with a clean fresh and empty set of folders.
Additionally, all JSGME options will be disabled during installation.
This means that after installing the latest Patch, you will find clean, plain Ultrapack 3.3 + Patch "x" folders and can activate any JSGME option on top again if you like.
Your old mods and archives will still reside in the Backup folder, named "#UP#_Backup_UP3.3_Patch_<x>" and "SFS_UP_Backup_UP3.3_Patch_<x>" (where <x> is the Patch number that has been installed).
If these Backup folders already exist (e.g. you install the same Patch multiple times), they will not get touched, in this case the installer will simply remove the existing "#UP#" and "SFS_UP" folders instead.
Ideally, this will keep your Pre-Patched mods in a safe place, regardless how often you install the latest Patch, and give you the ability to manually copy them over to your new "#UP#" and "SFS_UP" folders later, if needed.

This is what gets fixed and/or added with Patch 9 (including Patch 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 fixes, which are integrated in Patch 9):

In case your game doesn't work at all or it doesn't work as it should after installing Ultrapack 3.3:

Folks, there's tons of mods floating around and many of you have customized their Ultrapack installation before.
It's inevitable that such customized installs can cause all kind of issues when being updated to an extent like we do with these new Ultrapack Versions.
The way to proceed in such case is this:
  • Run JSGME and disable all mods.
  • Rename the folder "#UP#" to e.g. "#UP#_Backup".
  • Rename the folder "SFS_UP" to e.g. "SFS_UP_Backup".
  • Create a new, empty "#UP#" folder.
  • Create a new, empty "SFS_UP" folder.
  • Run JSGME and enable the latest Patch. Only the latest patch!. Nothing else. Just Ultrapack 3.3 latest Patch.

Run the game again and you'll see: It works.
For the less tech savvy, please find a windows command batch file attached to this post which will do all the above mentioned steps automatically for you.
Just download the file, put it into your Ultrapack folder (that's where il2fb.exe is) and run the file "up3.3_factory_reset.cmd" with a double-click.

Now that the game is back running, you can compare the new (clean) SFS_UP and "#UP#" folder with the backup ones (SFS_UP_Backup and #UP#_Backup).
The new ones contain only Ultrapack 3.3 content and the old ones contain only unrelated, custom stuff.
So you can pick your custom mods one by one and see yourself which one works and which one breaks your game.

Update: Patch 9 has been released, see 2nd post.

NOTE:
Activating Ultrapack 3.3 "Bigfoot" and the latest Patch in JSGME takes LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time as it contains lots of files.
JSGME might seem non-resonding but it isn't. Really. 10 Minutes? Easily. Wait. Be patient.

NOTE:
Ultrapack 3.3 "Bigfoot" Patch 5 introduced an ingame menu loosely borrowed from VisualMOD 9.
In order to access the ingame menu, you have to configure a key for "Toggle Game Menu" in the "VIEWS" section of your key controls:

This will give you access to the new menu.
The settings are used similar to VisualMOD9, see screenshots and test videos below:

Gentlemen, there's a new hotfix available for Ultrapack 3.3 Patch 9.
This hotfix addresses three issues encountered after release of Patch 9:
  • Ingame Track IR Menu wasn't working
  • Wingtip stall / airshow smoke wasn't showing
  • AIM-9 lock sounds were missing
  • Certain static winter textures were missing

To install this hotfix, just extract it to your UP3 game folder, keeping the folder structure found inside the zip archive.
