Question on opentrack
« on: September 30, 2019, 03:34:52 PM »

Hey all;  Trying to build my own tracker as I just cannot afford to purchase anything from the US or UK, the prices look decent until you add in shipping and convert to Cdn, then it is pure pain, especially when living on a disability income.

So I have decided to build my own tracker, but the IRs everyone talks about, SFH485P, are not available in Canada, listed as obsolete.  I cannot find what an alternative would be.  I do see them on ebay  but last time I ordered from China it took nearly 3 months to arrive for a $40 item.

The electronics company I have been searching is Digikey.ca and I have found the following, would they work?

(tried posting links but not allowed.)  If you go to digikey.ca and put in the following they will come up:   XTHI30W,  OP293B, OED-EL-1L2

Thanks for reading my post.
(if anyone has ordered from the ebay site, how long did it take?)

I just found a site saying that the SFH 4556P is an alternative to the 485, will it work?

Digikey recommended  MTE8008N3

66 degree viewing angle, would that be ok?

Ok, I have the LED, 1.35 FV, 50ma, 880nm hooking to USB at 5v.  According to one site I need 73 ohm resistance and another I need 19 ohms.  I believe LED ASSEMBLY WIZARD is correct though:  5v-3.9/50=.022 or 22ohms, I believe the other wasn't taking into account the LEDs are in series.

Can anyone confirm?

I see 1.45 to 1.8 FV at 50 mA in the specs for that LED, so you can safely take it as 1.5 or even 1.6. This gives 30 Ohm as resistance.

For those values LED Assembly Wizard suggests a serial assembly with one single 10 Ohm resistor (provided you power it from USB). In a parallel assembly you would need 3 pcs of 70 Ohm resistors.

Some of the pictures seem to have gone missing on the freetrack site, so I found it on internet archive. I used this for my build:

I bought these(I am am also in Canada). They are working really well.  I had trouble at first, but I found a mapping profile that works really well for me.

You can ask for faster delivery.

hope this helps.

Look for the specs.

880 nm - fine;
+/- 20 degrees or wider - fine.

The rest is secondary.

I ordered 6 LEDs and 2 resistors from Digikey, total cost $4, plus $8 fedex!  IR7393C 940nm, 100ma, 1.2v, 60 degree viewing and 2 CFR-25JB-52-15R 15ohm resistors.  I will buy a USB cable tomorrow and some suit case connectors.  I think my logitech 9000 will work, I have a site that shows how to access the lens if need be, and if all fails then I will order a PS3 but not if I can help it in anyway.  I even have a roll of unopened Fuji 110 film!!

I really have no interest in ordering anything from China, and it seems that is mostly what ebay is now.

Anyone know why I would only have 1 + in my opentrack?  Using FACETRACKNOIR with pointrack I have 3 +.

If anyone was going to reply, don't worry, I have given up on my home made tracker, buying delanclip.
