Battleaxe 1941 - Flying the Hurricane IIc!
« on: November 30, 2019, 03:18:41 AM »

Here we go again! Another oldie has been revived by Edc1, and moved into the benign light of the BAT universe. This time another in the "Battlexe 1941" series:

Libya, June 1941. You are a RAF pilot flying the Hurricane IIc. The Allies have taken one pounding after the other in the desert, but now a big British counter-offensive is about to start. You will be in thick of it, and as you are flying the Hurricane Mk IIc, armed with four 20mm cannon and capable of carrying bombs, you will be flying mainly ground support missions... If you like ground pounding this is for you!

You can download the campaign here: http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads3&file=details&id=86

Operation Battleaxe had the goal of clearing Eastern Cyrenaica of German and Italian forces. (One of the main benefits of this would be the lifting of the siege of Tobruk.) It was the first time during the war that a significant German force fought on the defensive. The operation did not succeed though, as British forces launched their initial assaults against strong defensive positions created by German General Erwin Rommel.

The British lost over half of their tanks on the first day and only achieved victory at one of their three thrusts. On the second day, they achieved mixed results, being pushed back on their western flank but repelled a significant German counter-attack in their centre. On the third day, the British narrowly avoided outright disaster by successfully withdrawing just prior to a German encircling movement which would have cut them off from retreat. In the air the fighting was hard, with the Axis coming out as victors there as well. The Allies lost three times the number of aircraft as the Axis. It was the last time that the Axis dominated the North African sky completely.

Here you have some more shiny screenies. Thanks for looking!  :) And again a big thank you to Stan for the conversion work!

Really enjoyed the campaign, I love flying some of the allied early war crates so this was right up my ally.
