So I an getting pretty frustrated with the landing gear strength in this mod, whatever I do, no matter how slow I land, 80% of the time my plane explodes/ I have been trying to land the F8 panther on carriers and no matter how good my landing is, the tail always falls off or explodes. Did I install the mod wrong or is there a way to fix this issue...

What aircraft in correct ?

F-8 (or F8U) ---> Crusader
Panther ---> F9F -2 / -4 / -5 (straight-wing)
F9F -8 ---> Cougar (swept-wing)


Generally it hears like too heavy for carrier landing.
Too much fuel rest, droptanks are not empty or also about internal tanks. Decrease fuel.
Not to keep bombs. Dump them.

Make the carrier running in 30 km/h or 50km/h (18 knot ~ 28 knot) heading to the wind direction + set wind speed as some m/s (It helps carrier landing more easier).

I'm not good at carrier landings, I break stuff all the time.
Maybe deactivating some of the difficulty options could help you.
