CVE Upgrade and HMS Victorious 1.0 Beta - WIP
« on: May 24, 2020, 04:56:48 PM »

Supporting Milvipes Escort Mission I present you the birth of new Jeep Carriers, Baby Flattops
or commonly known CVEs.

Since our sole 3 are a sad sack to showcase, our Mission is to bolster up the USN, RN Fleet of Escort Carriers
for a variety of Theatres. We introduce here Atlantic CVEs showcasing important ASW and british Types,
as well as some real Bad Ass CVEs that deserve to be included.
All this will be topped by Ranwers Deck Crew Upgrade and proper Catapult entries...

Big Loco Steam Clouds pulling Chimneys we will tackle here too, once and for all, as we fired all the stock Machinists from Kaiseryards. If we need a Smoke Screen, we call that seperately.

We will assure that and even more Gimmicks you're about to meet.
Some will have a tractor, not all. And one will historically see a lil befeathered Friend rescued from Iwo Jima Island.
Hirowhoo, a small owl that was aboard USS Anzio during the Landings will see her appearance as a new Deckcrew Asset.
If on the Tractors engine Cowl or on the Captains shoulder will be decided later...

Historically We will meet the completion of Taffy 2 and 3, Taffy 1 is partially covered, so some Decent battling
possible.

Rear Admiral Thomas L. Sprague's Task Unit 77.4.1 ("Taffy 1") consisted of the Carrier Division 22 escort carriers Sangamon, Suwannee, Santee, Petrof Bay, Chenango and Saginaw Bay.

Rear Admiral Felix Stump's Task Unit 77.4.2 ("Taffy 2") Carrier Division 24 consisted of Natoma Bay and Manila Bay, and Rear Admiral William D. Sample's Carrier Division 27 Marcus Island, Kadashan Bay, Savo Island, and Ommaney Bay.

Rear Admiral Clifton Sprague's Task Unit 77.4.3 ("Taffy 3") consisted of Carrier Division 25 Fanshaw Bay, St. Lo, White Plains, Kalinin Bay, and Rear Admiral Ralph A. Ofstie's Carrier Division 26 Kitkun Bay and Gambier Bay.

Accidently pulled out an outdated List, recent WIP includes complete Taffy 2 and Taffy 3.
They blend perfectly with our Stock filling a gap.
At ASW Milvipes wanted a bit variety too and a few I had on my personal List.

Texturing on new Template is better now, progress goes.

Keep it up

When I figure out how not to hit the drink every time I try to land on them...
Sea Gladiator is OK.
Wildcat/Martlet gets really iffy.
Corsair (like 'em crazy USMC aviators) becomes suicidal.
And forget about Seafire (though historically they saw negligible action on CVE).
Add some North Atlantic weather, and it gets real dicey.

All you need is curved approach, fuel less than 50%, approach speed no more than 90kts. If carrier is not able reach 20kts use wind in FMB. Last fourth turn no more than 200ft alt. This is my way.

USN flew much lower:

Actually historical approaches only work so much because of several factors...first the FMs of some carrier birds are seriously porked, period! Second, the POV-its easy to loose orientation and grasp of critical values like airspeed, power setting and altitude when you don't want to loose sight of the deck (Track IR is great but it needs time to get used to it)...and most importantly, we miss a LSO...

But a curved approach really is your best bet...I also approach the last turn at about 200ft and about 110mph, excess speed is lost in the final turn so I end up above the carrier at about 95 mph and at a good altitude to cut the throttle...make sure to go easy with the power settings, otherwise you will yaw and loose alignments...
Landing on CVEs is quite easy with a little practice, in fact I find it more easy than landing on British CVs of the Illustrious class...

Work has been put in active phase, after the loss of my initial template, I had a break from it.
Now back to start fresh.
I'll browse research, then head into Skinning, when ready that's all I need, as the Java is already waiting for it.

I made a custom Deck Crew for these CVEs with a Tractor forward the Island.

My dearest wish for this would be a static aircraft. But is no must.
Provisions for more British Carriers of these Classes, as we succeed in progress.

first post cleaned up a bit.
