Vought V93s of the Thai Air Force
« on: July 27, 2020, 09:18:46 PM »

OK so here's a pack of Vought 93S skins (1024) for Zflyers excellent model posted earlier today.  They are more or less historic including generic and some numbered aircraft.  The aluminum/silver dope was the original delivery and local production scheme  used until late 1939.  The 2 tone upper camo scheme, probably in shades of brown and green, was introduced prior to the French conflict and continued in use through the Japanese invasion and WW II.  Markings beyond roundels are pretty much guess work. The monkey & diamond insignia likely did not appear on silver dope/aluminum painted aircraft.  The example in the RTAF museum is probably not authentic but it looks cool so it is the default and I've included several others in the pack as well. The monkey in the triangle emblem on the camo birds is accurate for some aircraft.  The back ground color (I used dark yellow and light blue) are best guesses as are the yellow and white fuselage stripe options. Based on limited photos some aircraft carried stripes some didn't.  Apparently each of the 5 active RTAF wings at the time used identifying colors which may have applied to the triangles as well as the stripes.  Thai Voughts fought against French Vichy forces in early 1940 and again saw combat briefly against invading Japanese forces in December 1941.

Excellent work dona, thank you very much, really appreciated. 8)

The availability of the Vought has finally made me try and update my old Thia/Vichy campaigns to include
many of the new aircraft now available that used hacks back then, these will be very useful. ;)

Take care and be safe.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

  • There is no failure in doing; only in not trying.

Very Nice!
BTW this plane is in need of a wide variety of skins as the export versions of the Vought Corsair O2U included, beyond the V-93S for Siam (Thailand):
1) Corsair V-65F, V-66F and V-80Fp for the Argentine Navy,
2) Corsair V-80P for the Peruvian Air Force
3) Corsair variants V-65C and V-92C for China
4) Corsair V-65B and V-65F for Brazil
5) Corsair V-99M for Mexico
The external difference between all these versions was the cowling shape, and for early versions the shape of the rudder.
(Other differences included the type of radial engine and armament details)
