Pacific Map Recommendations: Aesthetically Pleasing
« on: August 27, 2020, 06:15:16 PM »

What Pacific Maps do you guys think are the most aesthetically beautiful; glossy blue seas like the Casablanca map, nicely lush with a decent population of buildings and such, and with a nice view distance not being obscured by fog. I am trying to make a fully populated 1943 New Guinea map and the haze just kind of kills the vibe. Any map suggestions and recommendations would be much appreciated, thank you.

I am trying to make a fully populated 1943 New Guinea map.

I wouldn't bother. Just download Green Hell:

Takes a bit of fiddling to get it to work in BAT, but well worth it. I can help you if you need it.

For the Solomons:

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,57423.0.html

The two together cover pretty much all of the main theatre of the Pacific War.

BTW, hazy conditions are pretty much a feature of RL SEAsia/Pacific regions. In the Malayan Emergency, for example, no flying was practically possible in the afternoon because the cloudy/hazy weather closed in virtually every day...

Other recommendations for good Pacific maps:

PACIFIC_A

Anything by agracier - he tends to specialise in high quality maps of relatively small areas.

Aren't the hazy conditions purely a function of the game engine and weather setting, independent from the map itself?

If I load any number of maps with a given weather type active, I see no difference in the degree of impact on visibility. Of course, there is also the matter of morning fog, which depends principally (if not entirely) on Sun elevation.

Speaking of morning fog. I'd like to impose control on it. I dont like the way it's set to always get rather worse for a while after sunrise; I'd rather it peaked no later than at sunrise.

Incidentally, in one of the mission classes a little while back I altered the fog intensity for two of the poorer weather types, making it less potent for one and more potent for the other.

I suspect missing objects. Try this version, which should have everything necessary (instructions included):

Now the question is...
Will i find time to fly?
A wonderful portrait of a part of world full of green and wild  areas.
It was an unique tough  experience for those pilots.
