Please note there are two type of campaigns:
* Static Campaigns: These are scripted campaigns in which you do not affect the War, only the tactical situation of the mission you are playing. Although there is a random element inherent in IL-2 itself, as well as the ability for the Campaign author to add multiple random branches (say, if it is written that way, a mission could have several alternative versions, which are unique). A complex random campaign with 10 total missions but having 3 alternatives in each mission means the Campaign author would have to actually write 30 missions...
* Dynamic Campaign: The campaign is dynamic, and progresses based on what happens in each mission. Each time you start the same campaign, it will have a different outcome. The campaign is based on complex variables that determind types of missions, zones of play, available aircraft as well as inventory, supply chain, morale, moving borders, etc.
* Two Campaign Engines:
- DGEN: This was the original engine that was first introduced in Forgotten Battles (sequel to the original IL-2). It has been updated through the years, and we have a better version now. More on that later.
- DCG: A freeware third party engine created by Paul Lowengrin. It offers many capabilities inherent in 3rd party applications, but requires you to learn it, and make a choice of using that instead of DGEN, and the campaigns are not compatible with each other, per se. You can search SAS for DCG campaigns made for BAT.
If you have BAT 3.8.5+ (Highly recommend 4.0/4.1), you should do this:
1) Get the whistler's Single Mission Community Pack: A mega collection of Single Play missions, including ability to play many static campaigns out of sequence for fun. (

2) Get the updated DGEN engine and files for BAT (to bring up dynamic campaigns up to BAT compatibility). (

3) Get my BAT update to IL-2 series stock campaigns (to bring up static campaigns up to BAT compatibility, you install it using JSGME in the BAT directory). (
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,63073.0.html)
4) Get my BAT add-on for the original Bisnovat BI-1 original static campaing add-on from the original IL-2 which was never re-released until earlier this year. It is now compatible with BAT with cut scenes and all, and also playable as out of sequence missions as single player. (

This is just for getting completeness and all the stock content from the original IL-2 all the way to 4.12 (the core for BAT).
We have such talented Campaign authors that you need to go to the DOF, TGA, WAW, JTW sub forums to download their campaigns. Just of the top of my head, look for campaigns from any member really, but there are very popular campaigns authored (or at times updated/edited) by Poltava, vampire_pilot, Monty27, Nero, David Prosser, etc.
Ever so often there are new or updated dynamic campaign updates so look out of announcements.

Hope this helps.
