20% Crash after adding planes to air.ini
« on: December 07, 2020, 10:26:08 AM »

Hello everyone,
I tried to install the Jet Era mod today, I got my brand new Il-2 install working, I put Modact on it, installed the SAS Engine Mod, put the mod files where they should be, but after I added the aircraft lines to the air.ini file the game started CTD-ing after loading 20%. I couldn't find an answer anywhere, so I'm posting in here.
Any help would be appreciated, will provide as much information as I can.
I'm really new to modding IL-2 please be gentle.

Ah that's better,

What aircraft did you put in the air.ini and what version was it?

I tried adding the entire batch of the jet era first, then tried only adding the F-86k since I found a models folder with it's name. The list is in the air.ini section of the jet era topic. https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,15649.0.html

Edit: it didn't matter wether or not I put the whole batch in or just the one plane. The game version I have and I hope all the mods aggree on is 4.12.2

1) check how you installed the mod folder
Structure has to be IL-2 parent Folder(holds IL2fb.exe, custom name possible)/#SAS/mod folder(custom name possible)/Hashed files (the files without extension)
2) check requirements, mods have requirements besides the base game version, in case of Jet Era it is "Buttons" and "EngineMod"

Requirements:
The preferred setup for this mod pack is SAS ModAct 5.3 running Il-2 4.12.2. In addition, you will need to install the SAS Engine Mod v2.7 from Here
It is also recommended you run these buttons to prevent the jet overheating bug present in the 4.12.2 patch: https://www.mediafire.com/?6379l1dt08hdw7r

Alternatively,
- This will run on 4.101m with SAS ModAct 3.06 or later OR DBW1.71. Alternatively, it will run on 4.111m with SAS ModAct 4 OR HSFX6.1
- You MUST be using Buttons Version 10.3 or later, see this thread.
- You MUST REMOVE Il-2 1956 v1.1 from your install, otherwise you will experience gameplay issues.
- You MUST be running the SAS Engine mod v2.6RC or later. Otherwise this pack will NOT work. Available Here.

I have both the buttons and the Engine, the mod folder is installed as instructed except it has another 3do folder inside it. My #SAS folder looks like this right now:
[name of jetwar folder]
3do
com
i8n
InstantLog
MAPMODS
presets
samples
STD
XTD
[and a bunch of files along the lines of 00A987BUBL08]

Also, the base game won't start now either - crashes immediately after loading.

Do you have the sasmt_jetwar SFS files in SFS_AUTO? The mod requires them to work.

UPDATE:
I have verified the files via Steam and the game is working again - without the aircraft lines in the air.ini file, of course. Both stock and the SAS version are working, although with the SAS Modact version for some reason the "ACES" category of planes won't show up, even though they're in the file. As soon as I add even one single plane to the .ini file, the game breaks and CTDs at 20%.

UPDATE 2:
I moved those file-category-less files around and now the game doesn't crash to desktop. I can see and select the Aircraft in the drop-down menu. Only problem is that the weapon selection stays blank, the preview window stays on whatever the last aircraft picked was, and when I spawn in it's a static camera somewhere off the map.

A few things that are needed:

Please send a copy of your log.lst, found in the same folder as il2fb.exe.
Please send a screenshot of your #SAS folder.
Please send a screenshot of your SFS_AUTO folder.
What version of SAS EngineMod are you using? For 4.12, you must be using 2.7 or 2.8.X.

I'm really new to modding IL-2 please be gentle.

I don't mean to sound terse, of course :P
But more information is needed to solve this problem.

I was just looking in the SFS_AUTO folder to take the photo when I noticed that I hadn't put the two files inside! They must've been deleted after I tried to check the game files via steam, I replaced them and everything is working! Thank you so much FL2070, for just taking your time to check on my post! Can't wait to try out some really modern planes with this!
