Raging Eagles - BIG JAAF campaign! Now posted!
« on: April 10, 2021, 10:40:30 AM »

"Raging Eagles" was a series of campaign for the Japanese Army Airforce that I built over 10 years ago, for the stock, vanilla version of the game. Now has been completely updated, revised and expanded, and converted to BAT, and if you try out these different versions of the game and the campaign side by side, it will be obvious how stunningly WONDERFULLY this game has evolved!

This is a semi-historical, 102-mission mega-campaign, that starts in 1938 and goes up until the end of 1943. When the Campaign opens you are a Japanese Army Fighter Pilot, just graduated from Flight School, and who is then sent over to the Fighting in China, where the Japanese Army has started to fight itself up the Yangtze River. After this the ten following campaign segments awaits you: the Nomonhan Incident (1939), Back to China (1940), The invasion of Malaya (December 1941), The attack on Java (spring of 1942), Aerial attacks on Australia (summer of 1942), Back to China (late 1942), The battle over Guadalcanal (early 1943), Burma front (spring of 1943), Fateful fighting over the "Green Hell" of New Guinea (summer of 1943), Back to Burma (autumn of 1943).

Note that this is not a simple conversion to BAT, as a many of the missions are new, taking advantage of the ENORMOUS amount of new modded material now to be found in BAT, not least all the new maps that were not around when I built the original "Raging Eagles" campaign, like Hankow, China Coast, Henyang, The Slot, Thailand, Java, Timor/Australia and New Guinea/PNG. Whole new segments have also been added, like Guadalcanal, Java, Attack on Australia. All this means that the action is (finally) taking in place on proper historical maps, with proper historical aircraft. No skin-hacks, no stand-in maps, only the real deal - just what BAT is all about!

You can download it here: https://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads3&file=details&id=39

Requirements: This campaign has been built with and for BAT, the WAW module, version 4.1.2. This is important. If you have BAT version 4.1.2 or above it will work!

Skins: Included in this campaign are 110 skins. This might seem to you a bit hefty, but there are many aircraft that demand special skins, e.g. aircraft in the Chinese airforce, which were all foreign, and Allied aircraft in Burma in 1943. Also I wanted the JAAF aircraft to use the correct Sentai markings. And skinners have made SO many nice JAAF skins through the years! Putting it simply: this campaign wouldn't have been possible to put together without the brilliant work of the guys who made the skins that comes with this campaign. And they are: Vpmedia, Archie1971, Dona, Sakai, 78th Sentai, 200th_TARO, Jadehawk, RDDR, Jarink, Imme, Jesters Ink, Macwan, Hammered, MH, Kristorf, Hayate, RRG, CanonUK, Spinner, Phil_K, IFE, Greg, Ont_R, Max-TheHitman, Bob Robin, Robo and Leperemagloire. Many, many thanks for your excellent work, guys.

More credits: The conversion work has been made mainly by Edc 1, assisted by Andqui. Playtesters supremo has been Larschance. Thanks guys!!!

Sources: Through the years I've used a lot of good books the build the different versions of this campaign. The really indispensable ones are:
* Eric M Bergerud: "Fire in the Sky".
* Christopher Shores, Brian Cull & Yashuo Izawa: "Bloody Shambles".
* RJ Francillon: "Japanese Aircraft of the Pacific War".
* Christopher Shores: "Air War for Burma".
* Henry Sakaida: "Japanese Army Air Force Aces 1937-45".
* Dimitar Nedialkov: "In the Sky of Nomonhan".
* Ikuhiko Hata, Yasho Izawa & Christopher Shores: "Japanese Army Air Force Fighter Units And Their Aces 1931-1945".
* HÃ¥kan Gustavsson: "Sino-Japanese Air War 1937-1945".

Special dedication: This campaign is dedicated to the memory of Edc 1, Stan Roberts. He helped me to convert a lot of my older campaigns to BAT during the last years, and he indeed did most of the heavy lifting in this one. Indeed he was quite instrumental. But he died before "Raging Eagles" was finished. This campaign could NOT have been finished without him. Send good old Stan a thought if you enjoy it.  ]salut[

Shiny screenies will follow in a later post. Thanks for looking!

This is a magnificent accomplishment. What a tremendous amount of work must have gone into this. Many thanks to you, Poltava, and Edc 1. And also a nice tribute to the late Edc 1 as well.

Yes indeed! I don't think it could have been done without Edc1!

PS. Andqui and Larchance have also been giving valuable support!

After your absolutely brilliant Years of Triumph megacampaign (which I merged with your battle of Moscow and battle of Stalingrad campaigns to make it last even longer) I'm 100% sure I'm going to love this one. Downloading in progress. Thank you very much!
