Hello. I was wondering how you make noseart. I have made some skins (Not nosearts) via Gimp. and I have both Gimp and Paint.net installed on my computer. anyway, the Nose art I want to make is the Heavy Metal artwork cover from the 1981 film "Heavy Metal". I assume the process is similar to making skins but I haven't tried to mess with it.

  Simple:
⚫Create the image you want to add as a noseart
⚫Go to to your NoseArt folder (\IL-2 1946\PaintSchemes\Noseart) Open one and replace the image with the image that you want.
⚫Save it as a bmp under a different name so you won't replace the one you opened.
⚫Done.

come on, seriousy? 
gimp and paint.net are both great tools

You have to take one example that works, just keep the grey backdrop and then paint your image in there until you are are satisfied. Save it again as 8bit-256 color bmp, size 256x512 and done

Well i skipped a few steps that anyone who makes skins (like he said he does) must know already.
The only thing i'm guilty of here is that i forgot to mention the notepad step and that you only need if you want to make a squadron insignia not a noseart. 
In hindsight maybe i should have included them all.

You guys have been a big help. Idk why I couldn't figure it out. I managed to get VP Mod pack installed and running but couldn't figure out how to make a nose art.

now that you've sorted out the noseart may I suggest you look at the "Paint Victories" app (available over at Mission4Today).
It allows you to paint kill markings on a skin relatively easily.  For bombers, I added a bomb shape icon so that could be added as bomb mission number indicator.
