I haven't experimented with reshade settings for a while now and I have comfortably settled on my present settings. Less seems to be better with small changes. Too many shaders seems to have an effect on fps as well. Technicolour  lessens the cartoonish effect, though I use econmical settings otherwise things get too washed out.

Not really, I can still see the instruments, and the cockpit looks more realistic to me, less cartoon like. It also depends on the aircraft. In Bob missions I mostly fly the Hurricane mk1a, which needs a cockpit makeover. Not that it looks terrible, just not as nice as the Spit and 109. One of the Hurricane mk1 1938  versions  received a nice makeover, but the 1a, which I use mostly in missions still uses the stock cockpit I think.

Here you can see the hurricane pack mk1a  stock cockpit without and with reshade, and then the mk1 1938 reworked cockpit which looks nicer. Anyway, I think they both look better with the darker reshade settings .

I just had a look at your recent screenshots and they are really good.  I must give your shader selection a try as well. The Spit cockpit generally does look nice, doesn't it. ;D

The preset I have which I mentioned sharpens the lines and increases shading... not to the same level as BoS or BoE but it's pretty close! ^-^

I was recently mucking about with European Air war using  Shawn Griffin's summer terrain. It looks great in EAW and works well in this sim as well with a bit of editing and the addition of tree masks.

Howzit mateys!

That top screenie features EAW in dx mode with unstretched widescreen enabled without the horizon fog.The best way to play is still to play in glide mode 4:3 which enables horizon fog and diminishes the distant repetitive tile effect.



Repetitive tiling in il2 depends on the way the map was created.  In large maps like the Canon channel England map and 352nd map the effect is more pronounced as it would take a lot of time and commitment to effectively tile such large areas.

At altitude repetition seems more obvious. Smaller, indistinct fields and colours tend to counter the tiling effect.

In combat missions I prefer an interesting  realistic terrain on take off and landing, and tend to focus more on my map waypoints, flight leader and combat thereafter than the terrain.

Flight sims were a lot more fun when terrain editing and placement was still a mystery. :)

Flew quite a few Bob campaign missions in EAW recently and found the experience quite immersive despite the retro graphics. I enjoyed the regular updates by Starlight control, "Starlight control... bandits 50 miles ahead, heading 240, angels 15". ;D

At some stage I will post a folder containing the edited textures and load.ini files for the channel 40 and 352nd map after some further tweaking.
