Sub Hunter! A Campaign for the Dornier Do-22K!
« on: May 09, 2021, 05:55:19 AM »

When one of our talented modders builds a new aircraft, I often feel compelled to build a campaign for it, to make more people use it, but also as a way to say "Thank You" to the creators, who puts a lot of time and effort into their work, for us to enjoy, free of charge! Now time has come to ZFlyers Dornier Do-22K floatplane:

This is a semi-historical, 6-mission static mini-campaign, set during the Summer of 1942. You are a Finnish Pilot in 1/LeLv6, a unit equipped with Dornier Do-22K floatplanes - aircraft aquired from the Germans. When the ice melted in the Gulf of Finland in May 1942, the Red Banner Fleet started to send out submarines from their bases in Leningrad, to the Baltic Sea, in order to harass the shipping there as much as possible. The Finns (and the Germans) tried to counter this in different ways. The Finns stepped up their anti-submarine operations over the Gulf, and your unit participates in this. Your primary task will be hunting for Soviet submarines, but you will also search for pilots that have been shot down, and attack enemy surface vessels with torpedoes.

You can download it here: https://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads3&file=details&id=1206

Note that there is a strong random element to most missions, by using both the classic C&C Mod PLUS the "Triggers" objects (originally from HSFX). (For instance the weather is dynamic, and you will never know what you are going to meet.) This means that sometimes you will find no submarines at all, sometimes there will be a lot of action. Just like in real life. It also means that if you replay a mission it will probably not repeat itself.

This campaign has been built with and for BAT 4.1.2, the WAW module. That you have BAT 4.1.2 or above is imperative, as the campaign uses the HSFX "Triggers" feature, that can be found in this version.

Some more shiny screenies here, to tempt you try out this ugly duckling in actually very challenging missions:

Thanks for looking! And of course thanks to Zflyer48 and others involved for the Dornier!  :)

I played this a couple of days ago. Triggers are a good way of adding the element of surprise. I added one in a campaign I updated and re-issued. I've just added another in an upcoming post WWI campaign to make an enemy plane appear. It worked after a few false starts.

cheers

David

Yes indeed! Triggers are a great instrument for mission builders. And there is really a LOT of uses. I've just begun to understand the full implications  :)

Yes, I'm still getting my head around it too....  Enemy ground forces have been reported in [insert area here] Attach them to a trigger. Reports of un-identified aircraft near..... trigger time.   Reports of submarine activity..... trigger time. Unexpected sightings of whatever..... trigger time.
