I am no expert on British aircraft, so I must throw this question open to the forum: which Spitfire should I use for a PRU/high altitude recce mission set in late 1942?

I have been browsing all the different variants in the game, but I just feel bewildered! Is there a dedicated Spitfire PRU in BAT?

Hi Poltava,

Just looked in Red Core and there is Spit PR Mk IX and it is 1943 - looks all correct with the bulged lower engine cowling for the extra oil tank.

There's also the PR.XIX Spitfire which you have to add seperately. She is FAST... but very good at high altitude work.

I try to look up historical accounts of specific models used.

I've had the same problem when I am making missions.  So many models for anything but the U.S. hard to know what was even in the theater at the time, or even commonly used.

When I am adding Brittish or German a/c I usually just pick all from a specific year, then choose based on weapons, like a Spit with 4 hispanos, or just 30's.

Also, hard to know which is even a good model and representation.

In game, for 1944, best choice would be Mk XI.
