Two different lists for A6M Zero

Why there are two different lists for the A6M Zero? Couldn't the new models replace the old ones?

No, because they need different skins.
It was decided long ago to add them as separate slots in BAT so old and stock campaigns, along with the hundreds of skins that exist, will still work and not pop up all wonky over the new models in missions. I remember the time when that particular pack was stand alone "replacing" and causing a massive PITA ...

That little fact is a most unpleasant thing with a great many 3d overhauls of older planes. Nobody ever takes the time to make an overhaul and then also adjust the skin mapping in their new 3d....
