Next campaign coming soon (Hopefully)
« on: September 01, 2021, 07:50:08 PM »

Hi guys

I think it was best for me to begin my next campaign which takes over the Polish campaign in 1939 while flying the German Bf-109D-1 and then the Bf-109E-1 after the first 2 missions of the campaign, and so far 2 of them have been completed. Yet I haven't decided on how many missions my campaign would be, but possibly "15" since most of my campaigns contain 15 missions.

Hopefully I can try on getting the campaign to be completed. I have been doing some research of the borders on some YouTube videos but of course some other information would help as well. :)

Screenie sneak peeks.

Thank you for looking !  8)

3 more missions have now been completed !

But still not to sure on how long the campaign would be, but possibly a short one.

Just two quick observations based on the screenies:
The 109s did not carry bombs in the Polish campaign; those were only introduced during the BoB by EprG 210..
And Ju-88s sondid not fly missions in Poland AFAIK; they were first used against British shipping fr bases in Northern Germany in late September of 1939...

Didn't really knew that but I thought for a certain that the Ju-88s were firstly used during Polish campaign just like the Do-17 & He-111. But I've just saw this on Wikipedia

"Only 12 Ju 88s saw action during the invasion of Poland. The unit Erprobungskommando 88 (Ekdo 88) was responsible for testing new bomber designs and their crews under hostile conditions. They selected 12 aircraft and their crews and attached them to 1./Kampfgeschwader 25.[26] As a result of its small operational numbers, the type made no impact."

And for what I've read that the Bf-109s started by equipping bombs during the BoB. I'll probably just change it to regular guns. But which is supposed to be an airfield attack mission.  :-|

I am not that expert about the air war over Poland, so thanks for that info about the Ju-88s

For the airfield attack missions I guess it's back to strafing;
Alternatively You could add a flight of Stukas though to provide the heavy punch for the airfield attack and have the 109s escort the Ju-87s and Strafe what's left after the Stuka attack ..

That is indeed a good idea, but my next mission would be a Stuka escort mission. Which they would attack the Polish capital of Warsaw. But perhaps I may try that on another mission part of the campaign later.

On the airfield attack mission I've added a few flights of Hs-123 biplane attack aircraft that will be strafing the airfield as well.

The Hs-123 is a great idea! A very underused plane in campaigns but one that played a very important role in Poland...

Yes, you beat me to the draw. No bombs until later.

"Only 12 Ju 88s saw action during the invasion of Poland.

The Do 17Z was the most important German bomber - numerically - until it was phased out from Luftwaffe use early in 1941. I don't think it played any active role in Barbarossa, unless you count its Finnish and Romanian deployment.

@Orge Schwab I'm quite sure an amount of some of maybe half of the Doniers played role during the early days, weeks, and months during Operation Barbarossa. Yet I'm not really sure. But it seems like half or maybe many of the Kampfgruppen bomber squadrons replaced them with Ju-88s as read in wikipedia.

8 missions have been completed in total. But I'll see if I can try getting 3 more done tomorrow, and that should be it I think.  ;)
