nice vid!

but may I suggest a few things?
This should be an exercise in slow flying, you are coming in way to hot and at a way too sharp upward angle.

Try creeping along the bottom of the airship just a tad faster than the airship itself (know your stall speeds). The F9C and the F2F can go very slow, just as slow as the airship goes basically.  You are on a good approach, when the  <<>> indicator changes to dots! (and then the beeper will drive you nuts, I hear you have that option on) The color is of no importance.

It helps to tilt the head up (and open the canopy) so you can see the end of your skyhook piece and make it line up the trapeze on the airship. You can aim a bit low to be safe there...
I use wide angle view, your FOV in that vid is a bit narrow, but that's taste.

But slower is safer. :)

Thanks for the tips, Vampire!
I've been having a blast with this. I'll probably give it a few more tries, and then more of the missions.

I've been enjoying trying this out. A very cool thing to do in BAT! One question - is there a way to reduce the radius where the docking mode "snaps" the aircraft to the trapeze/ladder? The lack of depth perception on a 2D screen doesn't help, of course, but the jump into the docking position seems to be quite large. With more practice, I'd like to see how close I can get before it takes over.

No, that is inside the code.
Well I guess in the java one could limit this, theoretically.

You get used to it really, but the fun exercise is to do something like : Dock on ZRCV Port #4 with a BT-1/orwhatever".  That is very possible!

The "Autodocking" always catches the nearest hook!
So, if you activate it before approach, then on Macon you will be "drawn in" to that single trapeze, or in ZRCV you will always catch that last one...

But what if you approached the trapeze and only pressed the "connect" key the moment you are "there", in that position?
Observe the hook on your plane, being somewhere near the end of the trapeze.
Then you will simply be connected to that port and snap in.

That's actually the really fun bit that require precision maneuvering under the airship.

Actually, pressing the key at the last second is how I started out doing it. It was only when I saw Tsisqua's video that I realised Docking Mode could (should?) be turned on during the approach!

I'll try going back to the "last second" method - just need to map it to a button on my joystick/throttle instead of the keyboard so I don't have to look away from the screen when I need it!

Hello Straw,

I never look away! I keep the fingers of the left hand on my keyboard, the right hand on the stick.

Best regards,

Gerhard  :)
