Are you supposed to be able to read this at a glance? :D

I HIGHLY recommend to get NG-HUD! If you want to stay with the stock arrangement, I seem to recall that you can adjust the UI color in conf.ini...

I'll second the NG-HUD recommendation.  I am slightly colour blind and had a lot of difficulty seeing the red text against the blue sea background.  NG-HUD sorted me out.

Ng hud is default in bat.

If you dont have it, you are not anywhere near a current bat version or modded it yourself.

Bat also never changed the hud text color before that time.

I hadn't thought of that. Dark blue writing against a light blue sky, or the sea is ust as indistinct; but for different reasons.

I'm on version 4.1.1, so it's not that old.

Bat also never changed the hud text color before that time.

Weird, I've not done anything to edit the HUD text colour. Wonder what happened there. I've also never played with NG HUD. Is it something one can choose not to install whilst running the the BAT installer? Because that's what might have happened, as I've had bad experiences with HUD mods in the past.

EDIT: Also I noticed the text is red when playing on the Allies. In vanilla it was always red, no matter the side. I'm talking specifically about the text in the lower left corner, not VO subtitles which, if memory serves, were red or blue depending on the side being played.

G'day Fulmen

NG_HUD is included with B.A.T. 4.1.2.
There is no option to not install.

Whistler did create a back to basics mod for those who prefer the less intrusive old style of HUD.
I however can only get it to work on 4.1.3 and not 4.2.

As I only fly Allied aircraft I've only ever seen red writing, never seen any screenshots with blue before.

me neither

Get BAT 4.2, assisting with old versions will not work properly anyway.

I don't have the space right now to install another version of BAT while backing my existing one up (I've done other mission and plane-related modding on it that I don't want to lose), and as I fly more or less only Finland, I doubt the newer versions have much content of interest to me. I'll look into installing NG-HUD, though I don't use the HUD much for anything as I use the cockpit instruments, but some things in NG-HUD appeared interesting. I just thought it was funny that BAT (it can't have been anything else, as I haven't touched the HUD at all) would change the colour of the lower-left corner text to blue when flying Axis, when it was an obvious downgrade. I'm guessing it was an unintended oversight from some change that was made. In the meantime I'll either change it back to red, let it be or install NG-HUD.
