Strangely for me, in tests I get a severe FPS hit in JTW (slideshow of 20fps), but nothing significant in the other modules - go figure!

My tests were only one aircraft in each case (2nd shortest, upper burma map), so I cannot comment re complex missions.

I've just made up a version that makes use of the four editable distance parameters to put in the [Mods] section of conf.ini, the way whistler did originally with the 4.12.2 mod he introduced a few years ago.

This gives one full control over each of the four distance limits.

Is it worth posting? And if so, is it best to completely replace the more cumbersome first version (with a set of fixed values to choose from), offering only this customizeable version?

I would try that considering the limits of my pc as long as there aren't compatibility issues as it was originally explained
Like I'm fine with buildings and objects popping up close but smokes and explosions really add some feeling seeing them from afar, emerging from the mist. Especially with explosions larger than the visibility distance itself lol

If you want, you can try that. There are probably others with hardware limitations as well
I myself had to withdraw and use the closest setting for missions lol
Edit: Middle eastern maps with those dense cities are straight up hell for this piece of crap machine lol

As an older mod-pack user ( HSFX7 ) , I would appreciate a version which could be more universally applicable.
Of course I totally understand if this is not of interest to you.

Love your work WXTech.

Never having used HSFX7, what game version is it based upon? Do I presume whistler's original mod for 4.12 is not compatible?

If HSFX7 is based on, say, 4.10, I might have to get the 4.10 version of World.class. I can still do Java work on 4.09...

I've updated the first page, replacing the download link to the new fully configurable version, in the spirit of whistler's original mod for 4.12. And the new readme file contents are provided there as well.

HSFX7 is based on 4.12.
An experienced modder might have a better idea than me what will and won't work
with it.
I will happily attempt to use your configurable mod version and see if I can get it chugging.

Thanks.

If in HSFX7 World.class has not been touched, I should think whistler's version should work. Or perhaps my earlier BAT version here, which is essentially 4.12...

But who knows; HSFX7 could well have had some feature added to World.class. is there anyone still about who might be able to address this?

The difference in World.class between HSFX7 and 4.12,  is entries for triggers

the current fun fact is, the smoke is long visible before any mesh, since the mods are not built with such high values in their meshes. Most come with LOD 5000 *at max*....

And you will not believe how many aircraft I have already handled that had maximum LODs of 500! That's already ridiculously short by normal measures but apparently some "standard setting" for some modders. No idea why.

My experience with the LOD, s values for airplanes is as follows:

"Small" aircraft (Bf109-Fw190-Spits-Hurri-P51-Hellcats ....) maximum LOD3000
"Medium" aircraft (B25-B26-Ju88-Do17-Welli-Br20 .....) maximum LOD5000
"Large" aircraft (B17-B24-B29 .....) maximum LOD6000-8000

Bear in mind that at these distances, a few pixels will be visible on the screen.

In tests with land vehicles for example Tiger-KV, for putting some "big", in LOD1000 values, we can barely perceive on the screen 1-2-3? pixels.

Un saludo.

Ahh, so if HSFX7 employs triggers, then try the later BAT version (BAT 4.1.2 and later).

I'll give this a go when I next get a chance to do some flying.

My question: I did a night flight several days ago, but when it came to finding and landing at the airfield, the lights weren't visible until I was almost on top of it. This made it next to impossible to set up a visual approach. Which of the four parameters in the [mods] section of conf.ini affects the lights? Is it MaxVisualDistance?
