I cant believe there isnt a community fix for this yet, kind of sad if you ask me but this game no longer works on windows 10. I have disabled DEP, set my resolution properly in conf.ini, added exceptions for both the .exe and game directories in malwarebytes and defender, ive also tried numerous compatibility settings to no avail. this is very disappointing, I would have thought the community of this game was a little more attentive than to let a great sim like this one die on modern systems.

Works fine for me and I'm running Windows 10. Lashing out at this community isn't really a good look. This community has volunteered thousands of hours for an old game that they don't get paid to support.

Except that the sim runs fine on both Win10 and 11, so why would there be a community fix? If you provided a few more details, perhaps someone on here would be able to help you.

IL-2 runs on all Windows systems (from 95 to W10 and 11).
But you should avoid installing the game in the "Program Files" and "Program (x86)" folders.
And I don't use "Microsoft Defender"!

I had Il-2 dropped into my Win10 system and launched it without any further ado.
I use the Windows Defender, it never complained.

Maybe you are doing too much already?

  I've never had a problem. All of the help you might need is right here on this forum. This community has stayed awake . . . for literally years, keeping this thing alive. Read everything here which has to do with reporting issues. Be courteous, and courtesy will always be shown in return.
  That said, where is your IL2 1946 installation? Because . . .

IL-2 runs on all Windows systems (from 95 to W10 and 11).
But you should avoid installing the game in the "Program Files" and "Program (x86)" folders.
And I don't use "Microsoft Defender"!*

Windows Defender is an integral part of Windows, and it uses exactly the same virus database as all of the expensive software packs, only without all of the bells and whistles. You can turn it on, or off, or you can allow or not allow software. I find it much safer to use than Norton or Mcafee and their adware packages disguised as security software.

You'll get better help by posting system specs, and include the location you've installed IL2. Any messages which may have popped up, also. Are you only installing the base game, or are you using a modpack? Or are you using a mod activator, then adding mods yourself? What is your game patched up to?

Everything and anything which you can think of pertaining to your install would help us to help you . . .
And we really want to, Mate.

what am i missing here? and youd think with all of the folks on gog and steam having these issues that someone could have looked into it. but i assure you, late builds of windows 10 (1900) and on, get no response whatsoever from IL-2. maybe i need a directx 8 wrapper?

Thats my problem, I have combed forum after forum for months now in search of a solution, its either the same answers i always get (dont install to c drive, change res ect.) or its folks like me complaining that they have tried everything with no avail, if the community really is working on this where are they? this is the time when we need a community effort the most, when an OS looses support for a certain program. but i started with a clean install, and only went to these lengths when nothing else worked, and still, i click in il2fb.exe, and get no response from anything.

This is absolute rot.  Il-2, in any of it's guises, works just fine on Windows...whatever version...  Either your install...your ability to load Il-2 onto Windows...or your rig is fucked up.

You pleasantly provided absolutely no information about what you've installed, on what platform, or where...as you were requested to do.

This is baiting rot.

You could start by elaborating on what exactly it means for it to "not work whatsoever".

I simply took my old install I used on my Win 7 laptop and copy-pasted it to my Win 10 install. And now I have the same folder on my new Win 10 pro machine with 4k screen. All working. Although the high resolution took a while to figure out.

DirectX? Why are you attempting to run it on DX?

Oh, also, if nothing helps, did you try running it in compatibility mode? I used it until this point. But I just turned it off, no problem.
Anyway, as you can see, while there is a lot of people unable to figure out how to run the game, it's not really a problem with the game itself, or the OS for that matter. Just misconfigured/corrupt install, or specifics of that system.

Since you say people on gog and steam have this issue, I checked their forums.
- on gog, a problem with W10 is the subject of several posts

their search engines is less user friendly, could not find an IL2 1946 subpost (found IL2 BOS subforum though)

quite active, lots of advice, and few posts related to not being able to play IL2 on W10

My 2 cents:
your problem is related to the IL2 version sold by gog or steam.
and then it's up to them to remedy the issue
EDIT : or to you to follow advice on their forum.

Some SAS members use steam, so if it is your IL2 version they may be able to help you:
but please say in your post if it is the case!

Most SAS members use the cd version as the base for their install, and no unsolved problem here.

For my part, install from cd, BAT version 4.2:
Dual boot:
- W10 21H1 build 19043.1288
- Linux Mint 20.2 Cinnamon
IL2 playing fine on both OS

Most have been right here, playing IL2 1946 on Windows 10.
Have you read any of those stickies, all nice and organized from the top down? (Yes, right here on this board).
They are all there to help you.
If this sim didn't work on Windows 10, why are we all able to play it, Mate?
Conclusion: people who have it working on Win 10, even with all current Windows updates . . . must know something which you don't.

And it doesn't matter where you get the game, from what I've seen here. But it does matter that you provide the info we asked for. Instead of complaining that it was asked for. This place is different, in that the developers/modders here know this game inside out. Literally.
