When giants ruled... pt.1 - Flying hookers for the Macon 1934
« on: December 22, 2021, 01:02:39 AM »

This is a semi-historical 18-mission campaign, recreating the career of a Sparrowhawk hook-on pilot with the USS Macon during 1934.

It's the time of piece in the year and this is a peacetime campaign, to enjoy flying :)

This is made with and to be played with BAT 4.2.1 update! (+hotfix 02)
4.2.1 contains relevant material

You start out as a seasoned float plane scout, serving on a cruiser, when you see the mighty Macon for the first time in the summer of 1933. You just have to serve on that airship!

Sometimes requests get granted and you get to experience what would be Macon's only season, right up until that fateful day in February 1935 - but maybe the cosmic dimensions will part into a fork this time and history can be changed...**

The missions are recreated to be historical in setting, and many are actual re-accounts. Like the interception of the presidential cruiser or the search for a crash landed scout pilot.

If you flew my previous LTA misions, you may recognize some but in a new fashion. As I found out more and more detailed accounts, I made some missions closer to the real thing in terms of weather or such.

===

About the mission design:

This is made to be a "flyer" campaign.

The missions will *not* work by simply hitting autopilot. Sometimes I even went and removed waypoints, since navigation and precision flying is the game here. If you look for a rush of adrenaline, look elsewhere. If you take your time and fly about, doing your peace-time exercise business, while everyone is trying to grasp the potential of the airship as such, this is the place to be: Wind, wavetops and the elements.

There is no combat in this campaign**, you will get to shoot at practice targets on one occasion.

-I suggest to play this campaign on full realism settings and also with all waypoints and icons switched OFF.
-You should however also switch "No Instant Success" to OFF to always be able to continue.
-You will be asked to navigate, so familiarize yourself with a compass and a watch.
-late in the campaign you will encounter YE "hayrake" beacon navigation.
Information can be found here:
https://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Knowledge_Base&file=print&kid=704&page=1

- You may play on any rank you like, in-game rank is Lt. junior grade. (don't expect any promotion, it's the Depression, pal)

**note:
There is a follow up alternate-history campaign. I promise you plenty of hilarious action there :)

I highly recommend the book of the same name ..Vamp recommended it to me and I can only second his recommendation .. a great story very well told and the what if spinning from it is intriguing as well...

Btw the author wrote another book about the I-400 toku-sen story already, another highly recommended book and another story we can replicate in the sim...

I'm having a problem with the "find the Fleet Mission" its either the seventh or eight mission in the pack. My aircraft keeps spawning in the ocean, instant game over and aircraft lost. I looked at the mission in the FMB and didn't find anything that looked out of order... Up to this point all is well, and am having a lot fun with a very different type of flying.  Thanks for any help available!

« Reply #11 on: January 19, 2022, 10:19:50 AM »

There is nothing peculiar about Excercise01.mis and the mission plays normal for me when played from single missions or in the campaign.
The log does not tell me anything really definitive.
I used triggers to make the FF1 take off from the Lex, is about as fancy as this is.

A missing skin is no problem.
But it seems there is a java error with several FF1 loading   Lexington_10, 11 and 12. These are the ones that launch from the carrier when trigger is met.

-What BAT version do you have? Are you on 4.2.1?
-Do you have any (whatever sort) mods which include java files? (effects, whatever...)
-open the mission in FMB and save under a different name. Try to play it now.
-If it plays, could you post the .mis file you created?
