Game controls
« on: December 29, 2021, 07:05:28 AM »

is there a specific file that can be copied from one install of BAT to another that contains all the settings for controls?

With the new (great) update for BAT, all controls are now back to their default settings. And with my joysticks with their umpteen buttons and sliders, it's a bit of chore manually setting everything up again. Copying a file would be a time saver ...

May be there is a file in the "User" folder, in the root directory, but i am not sure.

The update 4.2.1 (I believe that's what you talk about?) does no such thing as "reset"  any controls. Neither does 4.2 or 4.1 or 4.0 for that matter.
Whatever "happened" to your settings has another reason.

Controls (as in what button does what function) are stored for each "pilot" separately in the file
"IL-2 Sturmovik BAT"\Users\[ whatever pilot name ]\settings.ini

This file - actually the whole "user" folder - can be copied (cloned, back-upped....) from one install to another, no problem.
You can also copy a settings.ini from one pilot to another one, so you don't have to assign everything manually again for a new pilot you created.

I was asking about the settings to joystick controls and buttons. They are specific to each and every Il-2 install and with each version I have, I have to manually set them to what I prefer. Takes some time to get them all set up in the same manner.

Yes! There is indeed a file that contains all personal settings for joystick and buttons. Found it thanks to your advice.

It is in /users/doe/settings.ini ...

Tnx again. Saved me a lot of time ...

Sure, but apparently I have only one pilot (John?) doe. I didn't realize that doe was a folder named for a pilot. I have never created any other and only fly with one. Pilots and careers are aspects of the game I never seem to use. For me it is mainly dog-fighting and map making ... :)

I also create a whole new separate install for Il-2 with every major update, like this one. I do that so I won't mess up an old working install and to give me time to transition with specific mods and visual appearance to the newest version. In this case that meant starting with a clean 4.12, installing all the previous BAT patches and then adding the 4.2.1 patch. That way I have a clean pristine install to start from, but with no missions saved or pilots.

In any case I found the file I needed and have learned something to remember when the next update comes out.

Alright, glad you got it sorted.
"Doe" is the default pilot of the game (international version). Every pilot gets cloned from that one if you create a new one.
