How to use the J2F-Ducks Art-Spotter?
« on: January 01, 2022, 02:58:01 PM »

Same as the title says, I know how to use a couple other spotters like the ones from "Dawn of flight" i.e tip your left wing towards the target on the ground and artillery should hit roughly to your left, but this doesnt seem to work on the J2F, am I doing something wrong or is it perhaps a bug?

In theory (according to the COD file) you have to use the Weapon 3 button (rocket fire - code 2(*) in the arming code).
But it doesn't work for me. Maybe you need something else...

(*)
code 0 = weapon 1 (MG or cannon)
code 1 = weapon 2 (MG or cannon)
code 2 = weapon 3 (rocket)
code 3 = weapon 4 (bomb)
code 9 = dropping the drums
code 10, 11, 12, ... = turrets

I have looked at it and it appears the assigned button 2 is not allowed for the type of weapon. If I assign a gun button (1) to the guns, they shoot alright. So this has to be fixed.
Other WAW planes, like Autogyro, Fi-156U, L5A.... use the (1) button, so they work alright.

However, it "simply" is the plane firing a bunch of recoilless super heavy guns at where you look, sideways. You have to "aim" with the whole plane, of sorts.

If you want to play artillery spotter, I for one much prefer the C&C object's way of working:
Place the C&C Object into a mission.
You circle over the target area, and tag a ground target with the F5 toggle key.
Then the Artillery will dump a salvo on that target with some variation in accuracy. Rinse and repeat, until your mission target is solved.

Agreed, Andy. With the added advantage that the CinC option works with any aircraft.
