Сreating a font/ (For those who draw skins).
« on: February 19, 2022, 03:45:15 PM »

Hello, this is a link to a site where you can select texts. A good helper for creating various types of inscriptions. For skinners.
Unfortunately, I did not find the German language in it.

But in general, the resource is not bad.

I know Corel lets you easilly create a custom Font. But it has restrictions, lots of bumbs in the output file.
It's nice for privates, but for eye candy Assets, even me didn't use such, too low fi.

But besides that nothing exists that bypasses the most annoying, boring, section of digital Design,
name working what Font Designers do. A ready made Font is months, sometimes years spent work.
Work on the real desk, with pencils, ink and tons of paper spent. Then coming closer in vector digital shape.
The creation of one glyph is only 0.5% of the jobs you need to accomplish to get it into a useable Formate.
95% is like what Java or Webdesigners do, beat up Time in stuff, no other Guy wants to do.
Lots of time you waste adjusting widths, heights, hinting and preparing the Font. A Headline Glyph Set is made up pretty fast.
But a fluid Text Font, there you have buckets of mass to move around to get it readable, the amount of Glyphs the Font uses,
count the variations, you don't want white parts in Text. You do what the Guys from Type Setting or Corporate Identy or Corporate Design have to do,
so you're not just a Typographer, you need to know about Lettering, how to Set Letters, on top. Without that you may contribute to
lots of afterwork, the CI/CD might spent correcting adjusting the output. The easier to use, the more time and effort is put in a Font File.
adjust the Glyphs to Known Design measures that are accepted and these people can work with.

This is a casual online Letter Gift card creating Website, it is used by Individuals to create private Giftcards,
Memes for Social Media Blogging. It's the awesome nervy low skilled stuff you
get from your elderly aunt on Birthday.
 :)
Happy Birthday, Happy New Year, stucked into easy to use pixel graphics.

This is strictly for Elderly or Folks who don't wanna Skin, not want to spend hours learning
decent graphic composition and how to properly carry out for printing, presentation needs.

A Font is a .ttf, .otf .... containing metadata, vector and glyph data, so User can integrate into
Win and any supporting Software from MS Word, Paint, to Photoshop, name it... to use that custom Glyphs.

Here is how we Font Designers create a real Font, TTF or OTF...

First you need to work up your Target Glyphs neatly in sth. like Illustrator from Adobe or in my example Freehand MX. Prepare the Glyphs ready for Import.

Second stage is importing into a Font creating Software, several exist, good and crap.
I use Fontlab Studio 5, it has several advantages over Corel made custom Fonts, is far more reliable than Fontographer or other low ware Creators the Market offers.
This FontLab is a Pro Tool, you can tweak, customize, automate, extendend, create whole Famillies of Fonts, the stuff you see on payware Font Sites.

For Skinners who have large Font Collections and troubles ending up browsing, searching their Collection,
get to know Tools like

Extensis Suitcase Fusion 7
Serif Application Font Manager

These or other similar Tools do what you can do on that Greeting Gif-Meme Lettter or Font search Websites, without the need of browsing Google, spending time in the mess of your Font Collection.

There are even Freeware Font Managers that do the job simply as clever.

Hope it helps and sheds light, as the Topic Headline is confusing

Hi Knoch,

This may be a stupid question , but what is a font manager - that is what is the function/purpose of a font manager app ?
I have imported a couple of hundred fonts off the net , and have them in my word apps , and in paint.net which I use
to make skins ( I'm too old and simple for Gimp or Photoshop  ).
What advantages does a "font manager" provide ?

We are not forced to, but I save time browsing, other Designers not using such methods,
simply spend more time searching Fonts.
your handling of Fonts, is like R/L Documents, they come and go, but usually they grow in stacks, if you need efficency or sth. specific, you need to organize Font Collections, for easy access.
Like a File stack.

Here is my external HD, I'm searching my collection for Square slabbed Regia look a like Numerals,
want to skin some CR-42. i.e. Or search whatever. At home I use Serif Font Manager.

Suitcase is here not needed, as as my Collection is mostly for Skining purposes made fit.
I don't bloat myself with not needed Fonts, like at work.

The advantages for me, as  I have bad Eyesight(Retina Hole at Center left) it is for me comfortable
and better to use than the lil Photoshop Fontlist preview, I can customize my search options and find a suiting Font faster, than browsing that PS List.

You're never too old, believe me, I'm 41, supposed to be good in shape.
A skull trauma and authism made the rest.
My Skull is that of a 60 Year old Man in a CT image, I have hearing loss, loss of sight,
partial dementia, epillepsy as backflips of that accident when I was 12.
I dunno if it's my authism that is the driving engine, that I can't lay myself to rest
I broke out and did what nobody wanted me to do. Studying, working
on a field not usually composed by handicapped like me.
I was treated not nice, some Colleges reufes to take me because I was honest,
said I had disadvantages.
It was the last time I did that. The next College took me,
as I kept my mouth shut, and did what I was supposed to do.
 ]cheers[

Be naive at it, overestimation is shit, you lie to yourself, underestimation is simply a blockade, you prevent yourself from time of fun, like when my authism kicks in at hugs or cuddling. Play these 2 a Trick, say kiss my ass Dudes, I have nothing to loose, it's my fun time, go into the pub, let me alone,
let me doodle, perspective? Fuck it. Doodle, experiment, keep the path open, let's see where it takes you.
See it as a surprise, counter control mechanisms,...
Sickness is no excuse, I escaped from the Ophtalmologic Clinic right after surgery,
most Dudes were depressive, the Docs said your blind, quit your job.
I said yeah I do, bought a Yearly Ticket for the Zoo and spent the days drawing with one eye in the Zoo, the nights with the Clinic Gang. I should have missed college Exams, I delivered everything in Time, came to my Exams with a freshly surged Eye.
Saying, absence because of health is no excuse for an artist.
My Prof took the Work and sent me home, but granting my Grades and homework.

Future, Fortuna are bitches, Past is too. Deal with present,
build a Laboratory, get freaky.

Sorry for the long Bla-Bla, but I felt this way now

Stay safe
Best wishes

Thanks for all the info Knoch,

I appreciate it.
I am older than you ( 59 ) and find all this technology stuff very imposing.
It is like black magic to me.
I struggle through with the help of friends , and my love of airplanes and interest in this period of history keep me
keen enough to learn what I need to.
Wish I was a better pilot. My eyes are aging now , and while I loved loved loved no icon settings in the past for fighter missions ,
I get zapped often because I simply can't spot the enemy in time any more.
Ground pounding and I am often a lawn dart.
Got to learn how to use the vertical bombsights better , I guess !

Thanks for your answer.

Yeah, I know that, I came into PCs myself with 21, during my Trainee program.I called my Dude daily as I was a Noob. After a Time he said, man,
don't call me day by day, only call me next time, your PC burns. Then he showed me some Tricks.
The rest went slowly, it's like when getting the drivers license too late, you never gonna kick and let smoke tires.

When these Samsung Galaxy Smartphones came up, I was endorsed by their Calendar, Notepad and other handy options.
My dementia makes Post it or Paperwork essentially useless.
A shopping list in my trousers gets forgotten, bbtw. dementia keeps keeps you fit, always searching, doing things couple of times,... ::(

my phone reminds me "Go shopping you Brick, here's a list, do it now..." ]violent1[

For Communication to fight the drawbacks of my authism I use a Graphic tablet, I'm a visual/picture sensed authistic.
Bla-Bla is confusing, only pictures can tell truth.

Yeah, crap eyesight drawbacks, to soften Impact of of these harsh light, get indirect Light at TV, Hifi and Monitor,
placed so that whenever you move head, no light flash hitting you. Be creative. When having bad sight, nothing is worser,
than just the mechanical TV/Monitor light in the dark.

I'm about to learn the Bombsight slowly. I have all the Readings, Manuals, but my brain
is like melted. Quit Yesterday after just sniffing through. Tables, Charts, counting and measuring,

There are 2 or 3 simple Tricks to learn estimate Ground pounding, Jabo Attacks.
There is the Bert Houle Method, another which is a simple Bombing chart from a LW training Pamphlet
and another similar to Bert Houles, with counting 1-2-3 or so.

Anyway, keep up passion
Best wishes
Tobias

My flat is plastered with Night light, to prevent me from bruises with Doors, Doorsteps Walls, interior.
