The Avia B-33 attack aircraft was manufactured in Czechoslovakia on the basis of license documentation for the Soviet Ilyushin Il-10 aircraft. Czechoslovakia received the license for this aircraft from the Soviet Union in 1951, and series production was immediately prepared at the Avia-Letnany plant. It corresponded to the Soviet model of 1947 and had four NS-23 cannons in the fuselage and a WU-9M firing position with a BT-20E cannon. The first assault aircraft B-33 went into the air on 26.12.1951, still powered by the original Soviet engine AM-42. The first B-33 aircraft with the license engine M-42 went into the air for the first time on 13.05.1952. In parallel, a training variant of the aircraft was put into production under the designation CB-33.
A total of about 1,200 B-33 attack aircraft and their CB-33 training variant were built by 1956 (1955). Of these, 600 B-33 and CB-33 aircraft were retained for their own use and another 600 were exported to:
- Bulgaria,
- Yemen- In 1957, Czechoslovakia sold 24 B-33 and CB-33 attack aircraft to the Kingdom of Yemen. In September 1962, the Arab Republic of Yemen was proclaimed, which resulted in the rebellion of Rojaalists, supported by Saudi Arabia and Jordan. On 11.10.1962, Il-10 stormtroopers were used against Saudi Arabian troops on the southern border of the country,
- Romania,
- to Hungary.
Aircraft operated in Czechoslovakia were armed with indigenous unguided missiles LR-130 (JRRO-130) and N-150 (2RU324). Bomb payload - 400-600 kg.
