AA gun with red tracers?
« on: March 22, 2022, 02:29:22 AM »

Hi Guys

Does anyone know of an AA gun that's in B.A.T. that fires red tracers?
The only one I've found is the German Flak 37, but it fires too slow and is only noticeable when it's dark.

It can be vehicle mounted, I'll just hide it.

One could edit the tracer color for any desired gun class. For that matter, other elements could be altered, such as tracer belting, rate of fire, tracer smoke, muzzle velocity, power value, etc.

If you have a preferred calibre and other requirements, I could pick a close match and alter what you wish.

By the way, the Bofors 40 emits red tracers, but the RoF is slow, and is in periodic bursts due to the time to feed the next clip. And they are explosive rounds with considerable punch...

G'day WxTech

If you are willing to change the tracer colour then my first choice would be the most historically suitable.

Japanese Type 98 20mm AA gun.

The most important thing however is that it can be seen from a distance min. 1 km, so a higher calibre might be needed.

Because of the airfield display problems (Green Hell) between 05:50 and 07:35 I have to take-off at 07:35 and tracers don't stand out as much.
Taking off at 05:00 the tracers stood out but the light was a little too dark for my liking.

Tracer visibility is not calibre dependent. All distant tracers are drawn with the same simple line. Color is an important determinant, and the spectral extremes of red and blue are not well seen because of the absence of the other two color channels (red lacks green and blue, and blue lacks green and red.) Another factor is the opacity assigned to the line. I have slightly reduced the opacity of the simple lines so as to provide a better overall match in appearance at the transition from the near, 3D textures to the distant, simple lines.

It occurs to me that a potentially viable candidate for the red conversion is the .50 Browning AA gun. After all, historically at least the tracer ammo in aircraft belts was red, and even today it seems red is still the common color.

Sounds good.

As long as I have red tracers that attract the attention of the player as per historical accounts.

Mod released to give the US M2 .50 cal a red tracer. Go to this thread:

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,68641.0.html

Note that these guns have an engagement distance of 2km, meaning an enemy will have to get fairly close in order to initiate fire. If a longer distance is required, another gun class having a longer engagement distance (they get up to around 6km, if memory serves) would have to be altered
