AH1G and W Cobra helicopters with damage model added.
« on: May 09, 2022, 03:11:41 PM »

AH-1G Vietnam era Cobra and AH1W Cobra modern era with damage model.

Hello guys, here are the two other helicopters with damage model added, again the folder is set for B.A.T. so will allow you to test in that install.  Again, I left in the various folders for cockpit and such because I tested as is with these:

https://www.mediafire.com/file/y617qtji1wdnek1/Damage+model+for+AH1G+and+W+Cobras.7z/file

Notes:

As with the AH-64, I have not included any java just the 3d, outside of B.A.T. there is no slot for the WSo as it was when released you will have to decide which version you want to use and then rename any folders inside the download to match the version of the AH1 you have, there have been a few.
My original development was done using borrowed slots so that is why I am just sending the 3d, the best way to test in any game install would probably be to just use the plane folder and dispense with the   others but apart from the java I just left the folders as I tested in B.AT. so be very careful how you use these, make a copy of your existing helicopters first if using your stand-alone game version.

I tried to repair the shiny parts on the starboard side of the AH1G, to no avail, sorry to say you arestuck with it as is.  Try as I might by altering the smoothing, vertices or even detaching things, nothing worked, even going through the X-Form process did not good, I made more of a mess.
The damage textures are stand in, the skin1o carries a alpha with holes in that will show when the aircraft are damaged but this really needs the attention of a texture specialist, I am not, maybe using textures from something else will suit you otherwise again you are stuck with what I made.

There is a Photoshop template included to add the paint for the internals I made, if not used this will just pick up the colour of your background texture.
I added this to various skins I have and included them, however, I only added the overlay to skins where there was no issue of covering the skin artists
credits, you can do those yourself if you wish with what I provided.

The following are the stages from development of the 3d for the G and W.

Completed parts, the Keel, Tail, Stabilizer and wings are now complete with their internals:

Damaged props and the caps:

Engine bay showing detail during construction with final D0 and CAP:

Keel cap active:

Wing cap active:

This is my take on roughly how the fuselage is divided up in sections from the little information I have:

Here hidden inside the reduced CF_D0:

With cockpit tub and nose added:

The Black panels are hidden behind the main skin, the intention is to replicate with paint the equipment inside
those bays and when the outer panel is hit you see into them.  There is a Dark Grey box each side (Ammo)
and a large Light Grey box (Fuel tank) behind the cockpit:

The AH1W in development.

As before the engine mesh has been divided into two parts, the T700 adjusted to fit the Cobra and
the bay that houses those engines made:

Internals for wing, keel, stab, cap, tail spars and again a part to represent the prop shaft:

D0, D1, D2, and D3 in work:

This is with D3 turned off just to check things do work:

keel internals, best I could do with the info I have:

Engine1_D0, D1 and D2:

Keel CAP:

Stabilizer various stages:

Right wing various stages:

Stabilizer damage in game:

The CF has been cut into three sections and now and has internals:

A quick test before uploading today:

These have been lying on the hard drive for a very long time now and are far from perfect but I hope these help better represent the damage model for IL-2 and improve your game play, you will have to tinker with them yourselves for any further improvements as I have gone as far as I can with these.

Take care and be safe.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete.

Thank you Pete :)
Glad to see these improvements!

It is far from perfect glibble, much of the damage meshes I just cut chunks out of in the 3d program but at least it now has something
that functions as best I could do it, glad you like it. 8)

Take care and be safe.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D
