Ambon-Darwin (1942) Map
« on: May 19, 2022, 04:21:49 AM »

Ambon-Darwin (1942) Map + ( Kendari - Broome)

From unpublished archives. The usual  map for all versions of IL_2.
Objects of version 4.14 + NTL_Darwin_1942_43 objects were used for the map.

I'll try to bring it to release as soon as possible.

In theory it should be compatible. Standard textures 1024 pixels. The default file location for the map.

WOW! Your town layouts and curved roads look fantastic! That must have been a lot of work.

The screenshots look amazing!

Just a shame NT is split in half.

Perhaps one day I'll re-start a project I began a couple of years ago, seeing I've been told that there's no limit in size a map can be.

I have carefully examined your map. You have included the eastern part of Australia, where important airfields were located. The coastline is very carefully and detailed. Much better than mine. You are well done!

But it's good for small or medium maps. For large maps, this is already a problem. The Map_C tool is not able to display a large coastline in the game, especially in areas where there is a lot of it. The Map_C file grows in size, and artifacts appear around the edges of the map. Texture squares appear because the system cannot determine is it land or water.

I have encountered this problem many times and solved it in this way: reduced the length of rivers and reservoirs in these areas and suppressed all shades and points of gray on white. In addition, the coastline must still be lubricated. Then the coast will be smooth. And there will be surf on them.
I apologize for my bad english.

But there are also disadvantages of this project:
-- The map is made on a scale of 1:2. Unfortunately, a very huge territory, a large coastline, artifacts appear at the ends of the map. Because of this, I scaled it down.
In addition, I wanted to combine the wonderful maps of Farang into one.

-- Due to the generation of only one type of trees in the game, I had to choose between the jungle and the Australian bush. And he is brown. As a result, I chose the middle one: green trees. And installing brown trees as static objects all over Australia is not comme il faut for me and for you. Looks worse visually

For the trees, green had to be added to the Australian textures as well.
From here, Australia turned out to be green-yellow with a hint of red.
Like the Australian spring.

--- The exact names of settlements and geographical objects for 1942 are subject to correction. During the Pacific War, some airfields changed their configuration. There were additional runways.
For example, Broome had at least two more runways. Indicated in red.

I have only installed one runway so far. Tested on 3 B-24s. Takeoff - landing is carried out. With a full bomb load, limit them in fuel by 60-70%

Within Darwin, according to the site https://pacificwrecks.com/, i counted 18 airstrips.
I have displayed only those that I considered important.

If someone wants to continue the development of this map, I left 3 empty positions in the texture slot.

In addition, several screenshots of Broom. Vehicles can move along the drawn roads

While I'm in a hurry to bring the map to release, you have the opportunity to investigate a detective story.
Find the missing flight PK-AFV ( Douglas DC-3-194)  diamonds.
