Dgen trouble.......yet again
« on: May 22, 2022, 02:11:30 PM »

5 Dgen campaigns this year....and not one of them could be completed without something stuffing up.
None of the previous advice has helped.
I'm assuming I am the only one having this problem.
This time both the event log and and Dgen log say there is no problem and that the mission ended as it should, yet the campaign has stuffed up and I cannot continue.
This time around, what occurs is; with each successive mission, there is a longer delay every time I complete a mission and hit the apply button.
It is at this point that the mission froze, I hit 'apply' and the mouse gets stuck, nothing moves, the music is still going.....and that's it.
It only happens with Dgen campaigns. Everything else runs as it should.

It never happened with my old install; that is the original BAT which had mega sized updates, 'flashpoint', 'check point charlie', 'pathfinder' etc.
The current installation is as follows.....4.2.12/SAS modact 5.3/redcore/Dgen for BAT....minimal mods...engine smoke& flames/no stupid radio messages/WXTechBigships....that's it.
WTF have I done wrong?!

BigShipsGeneric.class is a pretty sizeable one, and there were a couple of odd decompiler errors which I hope I correctly fixed, but which nonetheless have caused me some residual mistrust in my compiled version.

Perhaps you could disable this folder and run through an 'accelerated' campaign by quitting the missions early (after perhaps running in accelerated time for a little while). if you get the same odd behaviour and eventual lock-up, then we can rule out the BigShipsGeneric.class as a factor.

Another thing to look at are the files which DGen writes to. You may want to periodically look at their contents,  to see if anything is amiss...

Note that I am no DGen expert, by a long shot.

I thank you for your input. I actually did 'accelerate' the campaign prior to giving it a go, the first 17 missions actually, but it crashed at mission 12 when playing it......but I'll give your suggestion a try. I guess it's all I got left.....man this thing is really pissing me off.

To check your problematic campaign for compatibility problems I suggest you check the generated mission files with the Campaign Validator:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,65584.0.html

It will generate a report about missing loadouts, objects, skins, aircraft, etc.
It will not find errors in the DGen files though.

Well, that isn't gonna help then coz it's only with Dgen campaigns that I have problems. Does anyone one else have this trouble or is it just me?!
And I had yet another.....as I hit apply to move onto the next mission, I hear a loud 'BEEP' and there's no map on the briefing screen for the next mission....and that's it! You click go and nothin' happens. So that campaign stopped at mission 8.
In another campaign I'm running at the same time, it's getting really slow to generate the next mission after clicking apply; which means that one is gonna freeze up any day now as well. WTF is going on???!!!

The Campaign Validator will read the generated mission files and the report will tell you what's wrong and then you can correct the DGen files yourself.

I've done this myself and it works very well.

In this case, the type of mission that the program tries to generate does not start, probably a type of operation in ops.dat no longer supported for one reason or another, protecting a balloon or scramble usually gives problems, sometimes transfers, I imagine that they have become obsolete in some cases. If you cancel this type of missions in ops.dat and add the previous mission to the last one in campaign.ini you can continue the campaign.

Dgen is a very old program and this game has evolved by adding many things that may conflict with it. Aircraft types, Fw 190D9 late was one of them, later corrected. Different denomination of weapons and objects and a very long etc.

Are you saying everyone will have these troubles with Dgen campaigns, and that it's not just me?
If so, what's the point of 'Dgen for BAT' if it doesn't work? I reckon generally they are better campaigns, a better profile page where you can put up your own image; so this 'development' is a black mark against the game as far as I'm concerned.

The question is if the campaign you're playing is up to date or not, but how do you know with the amount of mods out there?

A single change in the name of the armament of a plane and every time that plane appears in campaign yourself and your brothers in arms will be blown up. A name change on the plane you want to play and you'll hear a beep and the campaign won't start, a operation that's is not possible for whatever reason, your game freeze and all campaign to the garbage, etc.

The older the campaign is, the more likely something will happen if it is not updated. It is a fact.

That's why someone tried that program that vonOben is talking about and that's why we've learned to identify problems in the logs. No, you are not alone, it's a common problem.

Just my two cents.

At least I can stop moaning about the issue thanks to your insight, so thanks, though it is annoying that 'Dgen for BAT' isn't what the name implies. Had I'd known this, it would have saved a lot of time and trouble... both mine and that of the thoughtful people who attempted to assist me in this fruitless pursuit.

Is your Dgen for BAT updated with the latest patch "B.A.T. DGen 1.4 Patch v6.0"?
