UPDATE: Jul 19, 2022
GenXgamer pointed out two matters that I've decided to address:
- The palm plantation objects (6x6 and 3x3) had trunks that were not tapered wide enough toward the bottom; that's fixed.
- The two new single Pacific palm tree objects were only available with my recent, major re-working of agracier's New Georgia map. They're now included fully here.

This update completely replaces the previous release; it's the full archive

================================ END OF UPDATE ==================================

Recently I obtained a better palm frond image from which to create a higher resolution texture for Pacific and desert bushy palm trees, as well as my recent 6x6 and 3x3 palm plantation objects, as well as my two new simpler, single pacific palm trees. You don't need to have all of these objects in your install; this will work for whatever of them you have. But I do include all files here for the newest objects (the 6x6 and 3x3 palm plantation objects, and the two single Pacific palm trees), as well as the static.ini entries required.

Get it here:

https://www.mediafire.com/file/oo7xl6thuvs13fs/2022_July_WxTech_palm_higher_res_textures.7z/file

From the included readme file:

These textures include a doubling of size for the nearest LOD, resulting in a more detailed appearance. They are for my:

=====================================================================================================

(1) Bushy palm trees mod, which includes a simple mesh addition that adds more fronds for a fuller appearance. The .mat files are included as well. (These bushy palms are now included in B.A.T., otherwise you need my bushy palms mod.)

=====================================================================================================

(2) New, simpler, single Pacific palm tree objects (uses the same textures as for the above palms.) They are very much like their old stock counterparts, except that the 3D fronds are replaced fully with plain 2D textures, for a greatly reduced polygon count. Recently I included these two new palm tree objects as part of my major re-working of agracier's New Georgia map. In case you don't have this map, I include here all required files for these two new palm trees. Here are the two entries to add to your static.ini:

[buildings.House$FurniturePalmAs1_Wx]
Title           PalmAsingle1_Wx
MeshLive        3do/flora/palms/LiveAs1_Wx.sim
MeshDead        3do/Buildings/Pacific/DeadTree1/dead.sim
IgnoreShadowData
Body            Flesh  //WoodSmall  //WoodMiddle
Panzer          50  //9.96

[buildings.House$FurniturePalmAs2_Wx]
Title           PalmAsingle2_Wx
MeshLive        3do/flora/palms/LiveAs2_Wx.sim
MeshDead        3do/Buildings/Pacific/DeadTree1/dead.sim
IgnoreShadowData
Body            Flesh  //WoodSmall  //WoodMiddle
Panzer          50  //9.96

=====================================================================================================

(3) New Pacific palm plantation 6x6 (and 3x3) objects, which allow to build up large palm plantations with much more resource efficiency. All required files are included as well, in case you haven't yet obtained these objects. These new textures also reduce the intensity of the appearance of a grid-like patterning when viewed from the air. And I've widened out the lower part of the trunks, so that they are less pole-like. The two new entries to add to your static.ini:

[buildings.House$Pac_Palm_Plantation_6x6]
Title           Pac_Palm_Plantation_6x6
MeshLive        3do/ForestSides/Pac_Palm_Plantation_6x6/mono6x6.sim
MeshDead
AddHeightLive   0
AlignToLand     0
Body            Flesh  //RockMiddle
Panzer          50.0  //9.96

[buildings.House$Pac_Palm_Plantation_3x3]
Title           Pac_Palm_Plantation_3x3
MeshLive        3do/ForestSides/Pac_Palm_Plantation_6x6/mono3x3.sim
MeshDead
AddHeightLive   0
AlignToLand     0
Body            Flesh  //RockMiddle
Panzer          50.0  //9.96

=====================================================================================================

If you don't have one or more of these objects, or decline to use all of them, there will be no problem resulting.

Thanks WxTech

This is the stuff I'm most interested in.
Looking forward to seeing the simpler single Pacific palm tree, I wonder if it's similar to the one I've created?
If not I will make mine available too.

On a side note, what's the thinking behind the 40m x 40m block having a maximum viewing distance of 1500?
Such a large object disappearing at 1500, that's basically the other end of the runway.
I've increased mine to 5000 and it's much better.

I included my new, simpler, single pacific palm tree objects, in two varieties, with my latest reworking of agracier's New Georgia map. This was necessary because I had added a number of them along the periphery of the 6x6 (and 3x3) palm plantation areas, so as to give a less uniform appearance of the regimented trees. This is the thread for that map mod, from which the two tree objects can be taken (if you don't want the map itself):

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,68827.0.html

The 4 files beginning with "LiveAs" (they being .sim and .msh) are the ones you want. They can be added to the "Palms" folder in this present mod here. The .mat and .tga files in that New Georgia map mod are now superseded, and can be ignored.

It's important to note that this present mod must reside above any other mod folder you might have which contains any of the same files.

===========================================

About the 'distance' figure in a mesh's [LOD] section. These figures are NOT literal distances in any reliable sense! For a given LOD value, the larger the object's physical size, and the more zoomed in is the FoV, the farther it is seen (within limits). These [LOD] figures are used along with the object size, field of view, and perhaps also screen resolution, to determine the actual visibility distance threshold. And so a figure of 1500 for a 40m wide object means that object will be seen much farther away than 1500m.

Looks great Glenn

Installed and looked over everything when I arrived home from work.

Only thing I would like to see is the trunks for the 6 X 6 blocks being wider towards the bottom instead of their uniform telegraph pole appearance.

I must make a mission to showcase your map.

Funny you should mention the trunks for the plantation objects... I was thinking I should taper the bottoms out some more. Currently they do have a taper, but it's very gradual and of straight sides. I will visit this soon and supply an update.

UPDATE: I've fixed a couple of issues. Please re-download the archive, from the same link in the top post.
