Su-2 cockpit made standalone, and with new gun sight
« on: August 16, 2022, 08:26:40 PM »

Get it here:

https://www.mediafire.com/file/5rlp0idda2vclt0/%2521_0_Su-2_cockpit_standalone_by_WxTech.7z/file

I forgot to mention in the readme file that the gauge needles have been tidied up, greatly reducing the heavy black edges.

From the included readme:

The Su-2 uses the old stock MiG-3 cockpit. This causes a problem when the new MiG-3 cockpit is in use, because the cockpit folder retains the same name but a great many of the resources are different. Hence the need to make the Su-2 cockpit standalone.

There was recently just such a fix made available. But it retained the original reflector gun sight which was poorly modeled and mounted rather too low. (This low mounting was almost certainly done in order to avoid revealing the upper cowl's originally missing surface.)

My effort here installs my own PBP-1 sight, on a slightly improved mount and at a more reasonable height. Combined with my altered PoV in the view hook section of Body.msh and the adjusted 6dof limits in the cockpit class, you will now enjoy a much better sight picture in a fight.

This is the complete cockpit, and you must delete the other standalone fix if you have it installed.

Hi WxTech,

Finally a magnificent Su-2 cockpit.. ;).

I just checked it in my 4.12.2m with Modact 5.30 and I encountered just a small error: the PBP-1 of the TGA must be renamed PBP-1_green so that we can see the cockpit in the game.

...Other than that, works wonderfully well. ;D ;D

Greetings,

Gilles

A silly mistake on my part. In the folder I took my sight from I had 3 .tga files, including _green and _black. Because it's been a few years since creating this I had foolishly assumed the correct file would have the same name as the .mat file. And so I deleted the two named by color, without even looking at the .mat file to confirm!

At least the error was one easily fixable by the user.

The archive has been updated, where I renamed the .tga specification in the .mat file, retaining the simpler PBP-1.tga name.
