altitude/direction hold in JTW
« on: November 20, 2022, 05:48:21 AM »

As I'm sure most of you already know, some aircraft in JTW have the option of allocating keys for altitude and direction hold. The latter tends to be particularly useful as it enables you to change altitude whilst holding your course - especially good for bombers. Another advantage is that the aircraft holds course during time compression, which can be problematic when trying to get rudder trim just right with level stabilizer.

What I have recently discovered by accident is that there are actually far more aircraft with this feature than advertised. Often the aircraft modder submits their aircraft without specifying that this option is available. For example, the RAF Canberras, most US/Soviet heavy bombers, Hawker Hunter, even a few props such as the Skyraider.

I would therefore recommend that you allocate keys to Misc_1 and Misc_2 in your control settings: '1' is altitude hold, '2' is direction hold, and try them out - you might be pleasantly surprised (I know I was)!
