You are the wizard of the effects. I know that is very difficult because it will then change the color of the water in the sea. But maybe doing something like the marshes with a combination of textures

Proof of concept, pier object as New Guinea bridge (ref. reply #41).
Needs top rail removed, raised 0.5 (-10.5) and possibly narrowed to single lane.

Is the ocean blue as well? If so, how is this difference achieved?

No, afraid not.
Simply changed RGB value in load.ini as I was only interested in showing the bridge.

I have read it is possible to have two water colours, however the link to the site explaining how no longer works.
Once I finish my current project I'm going to re-visit map building as all this talk has sparked my interest.
I have a number of ideas and new techniques I wish to try out on one of my unfinished maps.

Hey Glenn

An improvement for the map or not?

NOTE:   Midday and clear weather.
Disregard the crudeness, just a proof of concept.

Screenshot 1:   Tannin stained
Screenshot 2:   Milky
Screenshot 3:   Sort of both

Shane,
Years ago I applied a muddy look for rivers on maps having no ocean by setting the water RGB color values in the load.ini.

How do these river treatments affect the ocean, if at all? A screening showing a river emptying into the sea?

I love different river look where it doesn't impact the ocean.

Doesn't impact the sea other than the shallows.
The method chosen gives different outcomes and light conditions play a major part.
Shallows and foam line can be limited or removed entirely.
Blurring the river entering the sea gives a really good effect best viewed in low light conditions.
I already have screenshots, which I can post tomorrow.

For what it's worth, 'Screenshot 1: Tannin stained' looks the best to me.

Cheers

Thanks for the feedback Flamer.

The tannin stained river settings will be what I'll go with as it still allows me to have a lighter coffee colour if I wish.
It also gives the best coastal appearance (screenshot 2), I don't think there will be too many complaints.
The removal of the foam line and shallows in certain areas as shown in the screenshot from my River Raid mission (albeit different settings and I didn't care too much how it looked) can further enhance the coastline.

I like it a lot. The part I bemoan is the inability to have coral shallows/reefs. 😞 Which I eventually do want to add...

Those new screenies look great, I really like how you managed to get the river textures
to blend into the sea textures 8)

I would be fairly easy to add support for more than one water color to il2ge. Either by using unused bits in map_t.tga (if they exist) or by using a separate map e.g. il2ge_water_color.tga.
