New Map Builder won't work?
« on: April 27, 2023, 05:11:18 PM »

Hi everyone – especially the map modders!

I have a question and this is gonig to be a looong post!

As the one or other of you know, I built maps for IL2 from time to time.
I use a HSFX 6.0.17 game, that is basing on a 4.11.1 game version.

Now I tried to create a new Map Builder.
Therefore I copied my GAME HSFX 7.03 (on 4.12.2), prepared it for using it as an Map Editor and tried to launch it.
It doesn't work!? The editor loads up to 60%, then quits to desktop.

I found out, that, when I disselect all mods (at least HSFX history mod, as it was the only one activated) AND then select the „Stock 4.12.1“ mod, the Map Editor itself works!
Here I can load some (not) all default maps.

BUT:
The map list in the Full Mission Builder (Map Editor) is not the same, as in the all.ini – file in the Files → maps – folder which is in the HSFX design.

That means, that I'm not able to select and load my own map!

So I have a Map Builder, that works, but can't be used for own projects!

It's been ages when i createt my (working) Map Editor and I can't remember how I did it.

Can anybody help me out with that??

Does Map Building only works with some (or one) special game version?
Why does my Map Editor runs on HSFX history mod, but the new Editor won't?

Is there any way to solve the problem with the map list?
(I found out, that in the stock game version, there IS NO Files – folder and therefore NO all.ini?!)

G'day mate

I have zero experience with HSFX but this sounds like a path issue.

Stock game version requires a Mod Activator to create the path

#SAS\MAPMODS\MAPS

Perhaps a browse over the Map Building Tutorial you'll see something you missed.

EDIT:   I should point out you have a strange setup, perhaps this is how HSFX works.
I have three dedicated/stand alone Map Builders for VP Modpack, B.A.T. 4.2.1 and Stock 4.12.2. but I only use the VP Modpack one.
Why not have HSFX install and activate Map Builder in JSGME like the Tutorial suggests?

Hallo Seppel,

ja schon wieder bk.  :D

IL-2 v4.11 hatte so manche Macke!

Ist nur ein gut gemeinter Rat...  ;)

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

yes again bk. :D

IL-2 v4.11 had quite a few quirks!

Maybe try B.A.T.

bk, the old 4.10 & #DBW fan is from B.A.T. excited and my #DBW has been sitting idle on my hard drives for some time.

I killed v4.11 immediately because it was garbage (just my opinion).

Another possibility would be Mike's (Storebror) UP4 "Cassie".

Hardly a wish remains unfulfilled and you have almost everything from all different versions.

HSFX is long outdated.

If you need help (which I don't think so) get in touch with me and/or the increasing number of CASSIE fans.

Just a few clicks and you can fly online - no problems, no crashes...!

Never before, not even with the first IL-2 Sturmovik 1.0 (2001) has an Il-2 version launched as incredibly quickly as UP Cassie!

Everything runs smoothly and, Mike has fixed hundreds maybe thousands of problems which are still present in v4.11 and HSFX!

And I was there from the beginning, you know, we've known each other for a long time. ;)

It's just good advice... ;)

Gruß

Hi bk,

-> genXgamer:

IS THERE A MAP BUILDING MOD??

I generated my MB more than ten years ago and followed the lead and advice of tutorial PDFs and a friend.

Actually I'm asking for a new rising star on the map modder sky...

As far as I can remember the "mapbuilder" is just a modification of the buildconf.ini file in the root folder of the game, so it should definitely work in HSFX703

here are some useful links from Uzin

and here a link to farang post with extensive links to map building tools

That is what I was thinking, too.

Thanks for the links Frankiek - I will work through them

I believe ( not a map builder here - but I know someone who is )
the issue is that some of the Maps in HSFX and not in previous versions use additional
object types to populate them. The Map building mode chokes trying to find the
object types HSFX is looking for. I assume these object types are somewhere in an sfs file
within the HSFX History Mod.
That is a guess of the uninformed , but experts may chime in here.
I believe my friend enabled HSFX Map editing by creating/adding additional object packs.
I don't know if these were Boomers , or a home made collection.
I also do not know how he applied them - game base or jsgme.

Best of luck.
Looking forward to hearing the solution ( other than get BAT - nothing against BAT I just love my HSFX ).

HSFX703 static.ini will contain all the objects used

Mmmh Kopfdorfer ... the probelm is NOT, that a single (or more) MAPS do not load.

The problem IS, taht the Map Builder as a programe do not run, when it's on HSFX mod (as it should be).
The reason you talk about may cause problems, when you want to laod a map (for editing) that was not created with a hsfx based MB.

But I -respictivly my collegue- want to create new maps with the given options of HSFX...

Reading carefully what you wrote on the first post I suspect that your 60% crash has nothing to do with the unlocked FMB but most likely with an error in the air.ini and/or in the buttons file I also noticed that in JSGME you have enabled the expert mode. Just try to launch HSFX in normal mode only enabling History mod and not the expert mode.

I tried this allready - it only works with expert mode on OR with the Stock 4.12.1.

Maybe it will help when I add, that my HSFX GAME is only a copy from a friend, as my former HSFX 7.0.3 showed some errors.
So i deleted it and replaced it by the copy from my friend.

This GAME also does only work with Expert Mod on...
