Heyas

1. Does anyone know if i need a mod to see the contrails of the b17's like i saw it in some videos, or is my squadron just not flying high enough?
2. Is there any mod to improve flak sound? I can barely hear it unless it explodes next to my face :D
3. Any suggestions for graphical/effect improvement-mods aside from "HD MOD DLLs" + "MODS True Color Skins" ? (i found some effect mod that should for example enable smoke when starting the engines, but thre's no readme in it at all so i have no idea if will mess with my setup -> its called tiger UV3

- Im playing B17 campaign on 4.12.2 / HSFX 7.0.3

Visualization of contrails are a normal IL-2 function that you will find  in controls and you can assign a key (i think default is T) to toggle on and off

One of the biggest complaints by many user was that default flak and guns sounds where too strong so most of the sound mods have been working to reduce them.

You can tweak them in conf.ini sound section by working on Objects volumes, Attenuation and Occlusion parameters. I can't give you recommended settings as this very much depends on the  sound mod, sound card and general settings that you are using. You can also increase volume working on the weapons presets increasing the [spl] values. It will be a trial and error process.

Tiger UV3 is a sound mod that has some effects attached to it and the very famous fly-by so I wouldn't consider that an effect mod. HSFX7 comes with some graphic and effect mod that you can activate in JSGME Perfect map textures is an example but there is a full effect section here https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/board,76.0.html where you can really choose to your likings. Be careful as effect have a heavy impact on system performance and fps rate.

Contrails appear once the plane reaches 7,000m (or it might br 7,500m?).

In conf.ini look for "Attenuation". It can have values between 0 and 9, if memory serves. The higher the value, the more strongly sounds are attenuated, or muted. To hear sounds at a greater distance, or louder at a given distance, lower this number. I wouldn't recommend zero, but give it a try to see what results.

T is just making wing tip smoke by default (which isn't what im looking for) - any idea what the setting is called? Or is it just like WxTech said, and i don't need to activate anything?

Contrails appear once the plane reaches 7,000m (or it might br 7,500m?).

Sorry I didn't understood well your question wing tip smoke is what you can activate and can happen any time while contrails appear only at high altitude. There are a few mod to enhance high altitude contrails however these have big impact on FPS if you use big plane formations.  I personally  never use them and prefer to use the stock effect from 4.12.
