The Alternate World of Zflyer48
« on: June 14, 2023, 11:03:42 AM »

As I work on real aircraft of this world ( Kangaroo, DeShelde S21, and Sud 100), I have
my alternate world aircraft.

In the mid-30s a small aircraft company began in Colorado, USA: The Zimmerman Aircraft Company.
This small company began to compete with Brewster, Douglas, and Seversky for military aircraft contracts
and overseas sales. After several attempts the ZAC P7a was completed and was in the trials for USAAF
frontline fighter against Seversky P-35 and Curtiss P-36.

Suggest armament: 2 x .50 cal in nose and 4 x .30 cal in wings

ZAC P7a  "Raven"

I agree and I am big fan of 'what if' aircraft too! I am happy to see this coming into IL-2 1946!

As a fan of your work as well as making alternate history scenarios in the 1920-30s, this is a welcome wonder

Influenced by German designers and trying to keep up with American aircraft companies,
ZAC pushed some interesting designs.

Very nice.  Always interested in the competitors that lost...  even if they did not exist.  It is nice to have these alternative scenarios.

But then... look at the tactical lightweight fighter competition...  F-16 won, rightfully so, I think... but the losing YF-17 led to the development of yet another successful fighter in the F-18 series.

And if the Zimmerman company ever expands its reach to Germany, there are a lot of potential alternate history (some of them real history) projects with some of the early Arado planes (like the Ar-65, 67 , 68, 76, 81, 95, etc...) all very unique and interesting... especially the 95 which was both a floatplane that saw limited action in Spain as well as the coast of Finlant/Baltic, as well as in Romania in WW2, and had a B version which had wheels... and were sold to the Chilean Air Force (3 floatplanes, 3 ground landing).  Just saying... you know... people, always wanting more...   ;D

I finally remembered what the Zimmerman aircraft kind of/sort of/vaguely reminds me of.
