Strange mouse behavior in the game
« on: September 10, 2023, 12:27:43 PM »

Lately I have a problem with the mouse in the game.
The game version is WAW 4.1.3. and everything worked flawlessly until one day when two cursors appeared, yellow (from the game) and white (from windows).

At the same time, I had a problem with scrolling the middle mouse button, which does not zoom the map during the flight in mission. But in Full Mission Builder, that same button works flawlessly.

The third problem is that even the slightest movement of the mouse left or right (in flight) causes uncontrollable zooming.

The pictures show my mouse settings. If anyone has an idea what the problem is, please help. Thank you in advance!

You probably need to look at your keyboard and mouse settings in the game and remap them trough there, thats how i would try it first before messing with the conf.ini file wich can be unclear with some hardware buttons/axis names.

Just my $0.02 on the issue:
  • Double mouse cursor: Happens every once in a blue moon to me. Restarting the game always fixed it.
  • Mouse acting strange: Could be a windows desktop scaling issue. Make sure you don't have any fancy high-dpi scaling in place.
  • Mouse acting strange²: In virtual sessions, RDP connections etc. you need to revert to mouseUse=1. Not that I suspect you doing any of these, just saying.

Can't zoom the map  - Make sure you haven't bound the mouse wheel to a control axis

Same or similar issue: after hitting Shift+F2 I can see white cursor and mouse is deactivated for zooming with Left Mouse key. One clicking Left Mouse, then white cursor disappears and all is as usual. I don’t think that this issue is B.A.T.-related or Il2-related, because I noticed it first after the KB5030211and KB5030180 Windows updates installation.
This “one-click more” solution isn’t very comfortable, but the only one I can manage with my limited abilities.

I decided to go the easy way... I copied the same version of the game from disk D, tested it, everything works perfectly.  :)

Addition to the Shift+F2 issue: Overlays Beta, Omen's cheerful firmware. Just uninstall or change keyboard shortcut  :)

I had a similar isue in the past and never resolved it, it was like it was seeing the wrong type of keyboard and mouse, but in the setup screen it did accept the right buttons, but in the game they did not function or where asigned to different keys/buttons.

Mouse acting strange: Could be a windows desktop scaling issue. Make sure you don't have any fancy high-dpi scaling in place.
This one got me stuck for days trying to find the solution - and it was only a mistake in scaling (in win 10 when you get to the display setting smenu you see under scale and layout a box "change the size of text, apps and other items" suggesting to enter a % there - often a 175 % on a grey background appear there - DON'T TOUCH THAT but press in the line under the box, written in light grey cahracters Advanced Scaling Settings and there in the screen that opens enter what you want for scaling. If you make the mistake of entering something in the first screen, well, be prepared for trouble....)

I get more problems from that with the Game Window not properly scaling, but strangely only on 125% and 175%, and on 150% everything is fine.

What happens if you enter something in the first screen according to you? with me nothing, it just switches scaling of icons and text etc. and on the wrong (125/175%) scale this games window falls partialy of screen.
Might be due to your Graphicks Card drivers that it behaves difrently though.

I don't know about everything above...

... but I have had random controls key's go blank and I had to reset them after figuring out what happened.

I think it was happening when I was switching my default sound setting in windows, under playback devices. from speaker to headphones, and back.
