Illuminating ground target at night.
« on: October 14, 2023, 02:24:45 AM »

Hi guys

A mission building question, is there an aircraft in WAW that drops flares?

If not does anyone have a good workaround for illuminating a ground target at night.

Quite a few, dependent upon nation.

British:

Mosquito, Swordfish II, Albacore, Lancaster, Halifax, Lysander, CC Wellington.

USA:

All of Tobi's Avengers (obviously applies for British as well with the Tarpon).

Germany:

Stuka D8.

Excellent, thanks guys!

In real life it was a Hudson dropping a flare or flares, so I should take a look at that aircraft first thing in the morning.
If the Hudson doesn't have a flare in it's loadout I'll use one of the suggested aircraft.
Something new to me so I'll be interested to see how it looks.

If it's an offline mission you could use the Triggers function and have a light/fire/smoke appear at the location of your choice.  I've done something similar and used a Trigger to make a green light appear on the control tower when I turned onto the runway.  I specify offline because having tried it online it only appears to the host and the other players didn't see it.
Hope this helps.

Perhaps a combination of Hudson and Trigger, anyway I'll see what provides the best results and go with that.
This is one of the occasions when I ask the question first, as I do like to generate discussion from my fellow mission builders.

UberDemon thanks for the list, PBY would be the next logical aircraft.
Looking forward to trying your project once completed, hope you hang around once it's been released as I enjoy your presence on the forum and reading your well written posts.
