Catalina seaplane
« on: November 10, 2023, 06:50:59 AM »

Hi,
I am trying to make a “sub hunt” mission based on the Bay of Biscay map using a land based airfield as a start point.
Is it possible to configure the  PBY  Catalina  seaplane in BAT to take off from land?
Regards

Yeah I always wished there was a Cat version with a landing gear for beaching, kind of surprised one wasn't developed with the recent addition of several PBY models.

Also...
I tried to make a sub hunt mission, but I couldn't destroy a submerged submarine where you just see the periscope and shadow.

You pretty much have to land a hit right on it, not beside it, the depth charges don't really work like depth charges.

Maybe there is something with fuses I missed, but I tried several times to land a hit on a submerged sub.  Even using bombers that carry more depth charges than just the 2 or 4.

Hallo,
It Is possibile to create a clone slot of Grumman Duck and to build a Catalina or other seaplane on It. It should necessari to ask for authorization to the author of Duck.

Dandolo showed up the 2nd way to get a amphibian Catalina.

In our Beta for the Cat Familly we had one such clone,
but I dismissed the project for the Java part. It really worked, but the placement was weird.

No need to ask, author of the Duck agreed to the DTFWYWI License, me the author of recent Catalinas and a still WIP Dimon PBY rework agreed to it
too. No need to ask, simply go ahead. You can chose between 2 existing 3-D, Stock or Dimon.

The 1st and better way of getting the job done, would be taking up the already existing Catalina amphibian 3-D that exists.
Hugh? WTF? Yes, Users that care about the Community, it's evolution, would know about it's existence.

Submarines and how they are limited ingame we discussed already to death. Use Search option

This is an issue i also discovered, and was planning to make a post in order to "buff" some weapon damages because right now they aren't realistic. DCs have a problem but not regarding the damage imo: the explosive charge it's there, but the problem for them is that most have a 2 sec arming time that really is difficult to cope with when trying to accurately bomb subs. If you want accuracy, chances are that they will not arm, and if you drop them higher you'll very likely miss. Luckly the newest CC bombers like the B-17s have great depth charges that arm at really low altitudes, enabling accurate shots.
The problem is that not all planes have those DCs, and the Sunderland for example has the 2 sec ones + very heavy handling, which makes the task much much more difficult.
But the main problem really lies in the submerged subs instead. They have a the damage model applied ONLY to the periscope. You shoot at the hull and it will never count as actual damage, shoot at the periscope or drop a bomb right on it and you'll kill it...This is not how the DCs work.
I think that an "invisible" damage model spanning all the hull should be applied for submerged subs, so that it can be damaged as a normal ship. By doing this, this issue can be solved (just test a normal bomb detonating nearby a surface ship and you'll see that the explosion damages it, even if it misses).
