British planes that have immortal gunners
« on: November 12, 2023, 05:10:41 PM »

Hi guys! I thought this info would be useful for future fixes in the next patches of BAT.
So i observed recently that many UK planes have terminators for gunners XD
In short: i surprisingly discovered that UK gunners are essentially immortal, and only few planes actually act normally. The gunners in question fire and act as nothing happened even after being killed or directly hit, which is kinda sad when scoring a perfect strafe on the turrets.  ::(
I want to specify that these planes normally work well and i don't want to be "picky". All these planes took huge amounts of time to do, and to further improve them, i thought i'd share these elements to improve them even more.  ]thumright[
I tested the vitality/damage model of these gunners by shooting 7,92mm and 20mm at the body and head of some of these gunners from a stationary position, and with several bursts.
I'll list below the problems that i saw during testing; all easy to recreate.

Wellington, Lancaster, Halifax, Stirling, Maryland, Hudson, Battle, Vengeance, Beaufighter, Hampden, Boston: gunner dies (the gunner switches from the alive to dead position/texture) but the turret shoots with no problem. A "phantom" still controls the turret and fires as nothing happened. It happens both to the rear gunners and top ones, with a likely chance of waist and nose ones as well.

Additional bugs i noticed:

Lancaster Mk.III: rear gunner duplicates head when killed, pilot goes slightly out of bonds and top gunner does not have the 3D switch when ""killed"".

Halifax Mk.I and II: strange pilot damage and disappearance of the nose gunner once the tail one switches to "dead" 3D.

Halifax Mk.III: rear gunner can eat 20mm in the face for day and not even flinch.

All Hudsons: only trigger the "dead" 3D with 20mm+ bullets, but the gunner is always active.

All Stirlings: pilots are very hard to kill from behind even with a clear shot to their heads, while in the Lancaster the pilot can be sniped with no problems and with even a less big of a target

Maryland: once the gunner ""dies"" the 3D of the gunner goes out of bonds due to the turret still being active and rotating

Battle: rear gunner duplicates head when killed.

Blenheim IV: crew disappears when killed.

I also found out that the Blenheim, Beaufort, A-20 and Liberator GRV work perfectly in this regard, so maybe some code got lost that signaled the AI that the gunner in question is dead?
I can post screenshots if needed. All these issues are easily created both in combat or in a controlled environment for testing, and i hope they can be fixed for the next patches.
I will continue to test and see if i notice something else on other planes  ;)
