change the sound
« on: November 26, 2023, 06:02:47 AM »

I'm a little doubtful if this is the place to ask this question.

How to change the sound of an airplane.
I would like to change the sound of this "Ki-43-IIIb_Otsu".
I want to know how.

AFAIK....

You have to change the .prs sound used editing FM...

You can edit EM to point it at a diferent .prs files or create a new engine cloning the old with a new sound .prs

Or you can find the actually used .prs sound and change only this one....

The first solution act modification to only this specific plane , the second solution affect all planes that use this engine....

Thank you “Whiskey_Sierra_972”.

Where is the ".prs sound used editing FM" document?
It may affect the overall sound, so you need to be careful.

It should be in the .buttons file where all FM and related files are stored....you have to decript , edit and then reencript it (I'm not able to)....

You must find the file "presets/sounds/motor.Sakae.prs". This file may be hidden in an SFS file, so it might not be findable.

This file has references to ".wav" files which are in the "samples" folder. The ".wav" files are the actual sound. The ".prs" file instructs the game as to how to use the ".wav" files (what pitch and volume, and in what context of the engine's condition).

Usually, files for the external views will have "x" in them, but files for the cockpit views will not have "x" in them.

To make simple edits, the ".wav" files can be changed. To make more comprehensive changes, changing the ".prs" file is required.

To get started in understanding how this works, download a mod dealing with motor sounds. Any .wav file can be listened to with Windows built-in player (double-click a .wav file to open the player and immediately play the file.)

Going deeper presumably involves Java...

“Whiskey_Sierra_972” “FL2070” “Glenn” Thank you for your comments.

It seems difficult.

Since it is a "sakae engine", I asked this question thinking that it would be nice if it had a sound similar to the Ki43 or A6m.

Thank you everyone for your comments. thank you as always.

No, it's not complicated.
Simply stick to the project, learn about the Tools, how to do.

Swapp Ki-43-IIIb_Otsu sounds for Ki43 or A6m.

Here you must be more specific. Ki43 or A6M, maybe there's slight differences.
Have no clue what's your preferences.

If you can open up the files it's first job.
Just swapp the files, you know how to, copy paste.

I had the stupid idea to redo Me262 Sounds from scratch,
completely complicated job.

Piet/SAS~CirX made Tutorials, we have tons of Articles, Tools to deal with.
This was the case in early Days, Today we have a lot of upgraded Tools for easy access.
Ntrk Wizzard 0.5, dunno what's complicated opening a Buttons file with it, then
saving your custom made .

Thank you “Knochenlutscher”.

I remember that "J7W1 sound" helped me a lot before.
Similarly, I want to change the sound, but I don't know where to find what I need.
I tried creating a folder like "J7W1 sound" and connecting it to "my_samples" and "presets", but there was no change.

I feel like I don't understand how various documents work.
When I was a student, I skipped studying English.

You need to unpack Soundfiles from the Game, to have access to the Files you wanna change.

Sounds (Common) Board

see the first Stickied Articles, it says PRS files and SFS Files next to Buttons.
Handling the 3 tasks we have Tutorials how to's here on SAS.

First is to find a Tool to open Buttons, to get a clue about FMs and EMs where you get the names for PRS Files stored in Sound.SFS Files.
These you can open like an archive with a SFS Tool. We have several.

Sound Files exist for Stock Game and in BAT Files.
Unpack both and store logically, at every custom Modding, getting access to these core Sound Files is necessary.
They build the base for your task.
I think this is the first Cliffhanger for Beginners, but once you tackled that wall, the rest comes easy.
Just be resilient, crying does not help, shortcomings, they mean nothing.
Everybody can mod, do such custom changes. Generations of Users did before.

Having a custom Sound Mod, you see the core, it's nice, but the endproduct of what you wanna do.

Don't concentrate on the result, but the lil steps needed to get access to what's hidden before your eyes.
The Soundfiles, their structures. If you don't have access to the Soundfiles, a custom Mod won't help.

“Knochenlutscher” Thank you as always.

It seems very difficult.

Thank you very much for all your advice.

For now, I'll try to upload a video with the same sound.

I have not delved into emd or fmd files, so my comments are only suppositions.

If you are wanting to create a brand new sound file having a name not already present, I would imagine it would require to assign it in the emd, presumably Java.

The simpler task is to take an existing motor sound file and point it to to your chosen sample .wav files. Now, whether those sound sample files can have whatever name you choose, or must have already existing names, I don't know. Someone reading this should be able to clarify...
